Hi

Planning to eat here on the Dining Plan on Thursday Sept 15th -- it is a signature restaurant so it takes 2 TS credits to eat there - my husband and are I planning to go and split the dinner so we only have to use 2 TS credits instead of 4 TS credits.

My questions are:

*There is a chateabriand meal for 2 on the menu ($80) do they let you get that for the 2TS credits or does that count as 4TS credits?

*You can add a lobster tail for $28 - can you do that on the MYW dining

*Has anyone ever split a meal here before - how did it work? The portions look large enough to split - the prime rib itself is 16 ounces which would certainly be big enough for both of us to share...

*How does it work if you order extra things over and above the dining plan - like what if we got another salad or side potato?

*last - for those who have been here - is it good - did you enjoy it?

Thanks All
-Nicole

This restaurant is really not worth eating at, dining credits or not.

We had the Chateabriand on our last trip in May and it was one of the best meals we had there. I have only had one bad meal at the Yachtmans and that was a few years ago. Since then everything has been great and the Chateabriand had great flavor, very tender and was just a great meal all around.

I can't answer the ticket thing but if the meal we had there in May was great as was the service...

This was the best meal we had during our entire vacation, hands down!! The service was excellent. We did split an appetizer, the tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad(very good) and they served it on two separate plates. I can't imagine how big it would have been for one person because it was more than enough for both of us.

I'm not sure how the dining plan would work in the situations you are asking about.

But I did want to let you know that the food is VERY good. It was my favorite meal last trip and worth every penny. I would have to disagree about sharing a meal though. I was full at the end of my meal (clams to start, filet mignon, creme brulee, plus half of a desert platter that they brought us for free) but I wasn't overly stuffed. I think I would have been hungry if I didn't get my own meal.

We had the chateabriand last month too and it was very good.

Can't help with your questions about the plan except to comment that if YSH is twoTS credits/person than I would think the chateaubriand would count as 4TS. That only makes sense as it is for two people. :sunny:

:rotfl2: You want to order for two but pay for one? I wouldn't even ask. Really no different than ordering without the dining plan and asking the waiter to charge you $40 instead of $80. Really an over the top request.

Of course you can order, and pay for, extras. Splitting the appetizer and dessert and buying an extra entrée might make some sense. Ordering a second appetizer and splitting the entrée might also work BUT

Several posters have said some of the one credit restaurants like Le Cellier and the Concourse Steakhouse give you a better value.

I disagree with you about the Chateaubriand - the dining plan is listed as including EVERYTHING on the menu -- therefore, if I was traveling solo and had the dining plan and ordered the menu item of Chateaubriand - I would not expect to be charged double becuase I am travelling solo - the price is $80 for that meal and I would expect it is $80 regardless of whether one person eats it alone or 10 people share it.....I was simply looking for clarification from others who have used the dining plan to see if they ordered this meal and split it and how many credits they were charged.

Your analogy about asking to be charged only $40 makes no sense.

Also, I disagree with you that it is an over the top request. There are many who have ordered meals and added scallops or shrimp adds on at no cost and split them and they were not charged an extra dining credit for the split.

There was no need to respond so rudely to a simple question. Thank you for your input that it is an over the top request. Apparently, we feel the same way about each others postings as we both seem to think the other person is crazy.

I take it you have never used the dining plan either - as your response did not address the dining plan. As such, you probably should not have responded to the post at all since it was asking about the dining plan. I will ask the Yatchsman if we can order that meal when we go - unlike you, I feel there is no harm in asking a simple question - there are plenty of other things we can order if the answer is no.

Lewis may have been a bit brusque but I think he's right. ;)

And you don't need to have done this plan yet to know about it just as you do. He does as well....he is one of the experts on these boards on the various new plans.

We used to do the old gold plan and in those days, the servers did encourage you to order lots of extras. But in essence you are asking for two entrees for the price of one. Don't think it will fly. But good luck.

BTW, mashed potatoes do come with that meal.

We ate at the Yachtman's Steakhouse in May. We weren't on the dining plan but it was one of our most expensive meals. Anyways, I thought the portions were on par with an upscale restuarant. The restuarant definitely focuses on quality over quantity. We did not order the chateabriand meal so, I don't know if that meal has larger portions. We definitely want to eat there again... I think, you'll leave satisfied but not over stuffed. So, if you are looking to maximize your dollar you might want to try a buffett. If you are looking for great tasting food then, you'll want to eat at the Yachtmasn's. We also ate at Le Cellier and the food was good there as well and the portions were much larger.

GL... You might just call the restuarant and find out if you can do what you want.

I don't think they will let you order something that is for two people and only charge one credit. We inquired about an appitezier at Alfredo's that was listed on the menu as serving 2-4 people and was told we could only get it on the plan if we ordered it and paid for it with 3 credits! I'm still not sure how they came up with that logic!

It's kind of like ordering the Kitchen sink at Beaches and Cream - they won't let you order that with onc credit so I'm pretty sure there are exclusions to what you can order and they will charge 2 credits a piece for the chateabriand meal at the YSH, but we have had nothing but very good meals and great service there. We skipped it last trip since we eat there a good bit but next time it's a must do for us.

I think if you read the fine print on the plan brochure it states something about "single serving" portions...thus eliminating family meals (like at Cosmic Rays) and servings designed to be shared by 2 or more persons (like appetizer sampler plates specifically designated for "2 or more"

I really think you would feel a little uncomfortable at the Yachtsman trying to nickel and dime them out of every possible item on the dining plan...it is pretty upscale for that. If you really want to dine there you might want to use 2 credits for 1 person and buy an extra entree out of pocket.... I would feel VERY out of place sharing an entire meal there and then asking for a lobster tail add on and the chateaubriand, etc....

That said, we share many meals on the dining plan...mostly counter service, but my teen daughters sometimes share meals at the less formal table service places...and CM's have always been gracious about it. I am just not sure that Yachtsman is really the place to share an entire meal. I think you would enjoy your evening there MUCH more if you shared an appetizer and dessert and opted for 2 entrees (I think the cost would be offset by not feeling ummmm...shall we say "frugal" in such an upscale environment)

If the budget will not permit an out of pocket entree...I would suggest LeCellier....it is a very lovely place to dine and at 1 credit each you can have a terrific meal with all the extras and not have to be self concious aboutsharing every course.

You were a little more gentle and kind in your post but I think I said the same thing.

You get (1) entrée and a steak that's listed on the menu as being for two is really two entrées.

OP thought I was rude but it's interesting that NO ONE thinks the question on the steak is even a close call.

I remember reading that read Cosmic Ray's dropped the family meals. Probably easier to do that than to try to explain why you can't use one MYW Dining credit for it.

MYW Dining is a great deal. MYW Dining for free is an unbelievable deal. It's a shame that some people are trying to abuse the plan.

The dining plans says that it pays for single service meals - the dinner for 2 isn't a single serving. I think it's going a bit too far in asking about getting it for one adult credit. I don't know if they'll let you add things, but I ordered the surf and turf and it came with a filet and lobster tail (not the cut of meat listed on allearsnet so I was nicely surprised when I got there and saw the real menu!), so you could get the lobster that way.

I agree that I wouldn't try to nickel and dime at a place like Yachtsman, I would feel very odd in that environment doing so.

Yachtsman is worth every dime - but the portions are not huge. I ate every bite of my filet, AND appetizer, AND dessert and felt full but not stuffed. The portions are on par with fine steakhouses, which usually don't overload on the food but instead do the food well. I don't think you'll go hungry splitting, but I don't think you'll get a huge portion like at many other places (like 50's PT - we split everytime there and still barely finish it) so if one of you is very hungry, you might be looking for a snack later. It's quality over quantity at Yachtsman.

It's excellent, fine dining - I encourage you to try it, even if you give up 4 credits for it, because I think it's worth it. It's a true steakhouse with great cuts of meat - there are few of those at WDW. It's a lovely night out. If you want your best value, then I think you should consider another place on property because you might be disappointed.

Good luck!

I would be more inclined to share a meal somewhere else than at the Yachtsman's. Here are my reasons...it's one of the top rated restaurants on the property...making the assumption that will mean they're ingredients are finer and their preparation are to be admired. I would rather sample two of their appetizers and desserts than say at the Rose & Crown where I would gladly split an appetizer and some fish and chips. But use those 2 credits for each of you and order WHATEVER you want and treat yourself like queens/kings for a night.

We are a family of five and because my two daughters and son could never eat 5 appetizers and 5 desserts..we will most likely split several table service and counter service meals. But I plan on using all five or (ten) credits for out night our at Yachtsman...If there are 5 different appetizers I'd be more interested in sampling their fare than the ones prepared for at a more general restaurant. Can you imagine the five different desserts laid out at the Yachtsman? Wow, just a bite from each one would be enough for me! :)

And we may be there the same night!!! So if you're at the same time as us...please just come on over and we'll let you share all five of our appetizers and desserts..but keep your hands away from the entrees! :) Have a great stay and we hope we'll see ya!

Thank you for all of your posts and replies...let me clarify something though. I am not looking for a cheap meal...we have 14 TS credits between my husband and myself and have booked 6 restaurants plus are eating at Jiko on our anniversary and paying out of pocket. We needed one more restaurant and did not want a character meal, a buffet, a restuarant in the parks, one we were already eating at (Concourse, Marakesh, Olivias, Ohanas, CRT, Jiko and Alfredos) or Le Cellier (we had a horrible experience there once and my husband refuses to go back).

My husband suggested Yatchsman and I explained to him that we only had 2 TS left and that was 2 TS a person and he suggested sharing. I looked at their menu and saw such things as 16 ounce prime rib and 24 ounce porterhouse and surf and turf and those seemed like they would be fine to share...

However, I also saw the Chatebriand for 2 and while I figured it would not be included on the plan, I thought there was no harm in confirming my suspicions on this board with all of you experts.

We are not trying to cheap out but I do intend to split the meal there so that we can experience that restaurant -- if the portions are too small or we are still hungry - we will get something back at Mara when we get back to the hotel or will eat snacks that night while we are at Illuminiations.

So again, I appreciate everyone's input and I was not trying to be cheap - but I have read many many posts on this board about people spliting meals and the Yatchsman seemed just as good as anywhere else to do so.

I am looking forward to dining at this restaurant and will not feel weird or out of place to split a meal there but I appreciate that other might.

Thanks again for everyone's input and help.

We will report back about our Yatchsman's meal when we get home and I have no doubt it will have been excellent.

Anything labled "for two" is not available on the dining plan at any restaurant without the requisite credits. They are not going to give you an $80 meal and lobster add-ons, etc. without paying extra.

N.E.D.

I agree with the people who said that splitting a meal will not be much food for either of you. The portions are not that big. The appetizers are really, really tiny. On the old gold plan we ate there and were encouraged to add the lobster tail, not sure how the MYW plan works with that.
I can tell you that even with the old gold plan anything that was meant for "2 or more" counted as 2 choices. I can only guess that MYW is the same. Have a great meal! :)
