yardsale to Disney!

Well, I have sold my gold ($190.00), applied my $100.00 in court checks (someone stole my credit card a few years ago and I just now have started receiving court ordered restitution!) and now I am having a HUGE yardsale!
I have been cleaning out closets all morning, this is going to be a BIG one! And all proceeds will go towards our Disney trip! It is kind of fun, finding ways to pay for the trip without coming "out of pocket", it is just stuff that is lying around, or money I didn't expect!

Anyone else have interesting ways that you have paid for your trip?

Not very interesting but I have 200.00 per month put into my "Disney Savings Account"!! Last year we had a garage sale and made $500 for our trip!! that was all spending money!! Already had teh trip payed for!!! Still couldn't bring myself to buy the dooney purse!!

I save all my change & my sister & I have a HUGE summer garage sale. All "extra" money goes to our Disney fund!!!!!

Our last garage sale was a bust despite days of prep! I was so disappointed, I don't know if it's the location of our house or what. The people that came did buy, but we just didn't have that much traffic. I currently have some stuff on Craigslist and when that sells all the money is going straight to paying off our trip!

Last December I had a garage sale. We made $1000 Of course, I had several items new with tags that I set up on a xmas themed table and sold those for a bit more than my gently used items. Many people were looking for gifts and the items with tags were all name brand kids clothing. I also sold several xmas decorations that I no longer needed.

We also had a ziploc bag full of coins.. took it to Coinstar and we had $110!!

Every week I put aside $50 for my "misc" funds. By October I should have $1700.00

Sounds good. OP, where did you sell your gold at? For you might be interested in posting your gold good news as well on the gold thread, that is in this forum. I finally sent mine in to USGB. I posted about this on that thread. Anyway, I am very happy with the results.

Regarding garage sales, I don't always have such good luck with them. Too many people want something for really virtually nada. Very annoying, especially when an item is new, with tags. I feel like saying, excuse me, but this would cost more at a thrift store. I could easily continue on with what I would like to say, and maybe one day will, but in the mean time, just smile, and think whatever you might like to. Thank God, ESP does not exist.

I actually took mine to a local jewelry store. I had several friends do the same and they all said they got more there than they had been quoted at other places.

Yeah, garage sale cheapos make me want to scream and every time I have one, I swear it is going to be my last.

We currently are paying for 3 storage units at the moment and we need to get down to at least 1. So some stuff has to go. I figure that I will make what I make and then donate what is left, so I am trying it one more time.

OMG! I know what you mean about storage units. The cost adds up so fast. Ours are not climate controlled either. So there is dust, moisture, and silver fish. And yes, this is suppose to be a professional company. Not sure how professional it is, past collecting the money after sending out the bill.

Regarding the gold, did you get a quote from USGB? For they pay out at 98.2 percent for the market value of gold. And are very fast and efficient. My local jewelery store, had offered anywhere from $200 down to $100.00. The former was from my fist visit, the second a week later, big difference! My offer by USGB was almost $460.00

Those people are telling you what your items are really worth even if you don't like hearing it. If at the end of the day you have a yard full of items don't blame the people for trying to lowball you. If the items were reasonably priced in the eyes of the customers you would have sold them. What you think they are worth, even with store tags on them, means nothing. That's free market Capitalism. If you can't deal with it then donating to a thrift store is probably your best bet, especially if you itemize your taxes.

Now I did get ticked off when someone balked at $10.00 for a $150.00 gently used carseat. She wanted to give me $2.00 for it.

Exactly, that is what I am talking about. And again, when an item is new, with tags, and your price is much lower from the original price. Give me a break cheapo people.

I have a bad location for yard sales (though I've tried many times!) and usually will just combine my stuff with my mom's sales, but she hasn't had one in 2 years. I've been selling most of my items on craigslist or from my facebook page to friends.

as for our Disney fund we're saving all of our loose change, money from items sold, rebates and occasionally I'll buy disney gift cards at walgreens and stick them in the big pickle jar we're using. It's a great visual for the kids who can't comprehend why we can't go to Disney right now lol. Instead they've also donated the money they get paid from their grandparents for their A's on their report cards It makes them feel like they are getting us to Disney faster and I think it's great that they are working together instead of fighting lol!

Sounds like good plans that you have CC. I have purchased a few DGC's too, over time. That way, I cannot spend the cash. I have also earned several via a rewards site. So those were truly like gift cards. I am just working on figuring out where exactly I can use them.

We are doing a yard sale in May hoping for 1,000

I regularly consign my cloths to a hig end consignment store that gets me around $300 a season

I am going to sell an extra TV I have and hoping for $400, selling a wine cooler too. They are just items I don't need any more.

Taking DDs last years summer clothing to Once Upon a Kid and I usually get $100

voila....a Disney trip!

I had good luck with my first garage sale last year. I listed brands and sizes for clothes, big ticket items with prices and several other descriptions in a list on Craig's list prior to the sale. Most people that came say that they saw it advertised there. Good Luck!

We always "outsource" our garage sale items to some friends. She is a garage sale junkie. She list in the local paper and splits the cost among everyone. Usually about $6 per family. Then she keeps tabs on what family sells what and how much each family gets. It works out great for us, we get money and don't have to do it!

One thing that she does, (they have 4 daughters). She makes cookies and lemonade and the girls have a table. 50 cents for a cookie and 50 cents for drink. Those girls will clean up over a couple of days. Usually $25-$40 per child. People won't always buy items but will buy a cookie from a kid and often times tell them to keep the change!
