Yak & Yeti Orlando Sentinel Review not very good

The thing that gets me agitated about this place isn't the ridiculous prices or the get-'em-in, get-'em-out mentality. It's the apparent arrogance that because they're the only full-service restaurant inside the park they don't need to do a better job. That's insulting.

Shame on Landry's Restaurants, and shame on Disney for allowing it.


This to me sums up what WDW dining has become over the past 10 yrs.

I don't doubt the reviewer's experience, nor do I doubt the Diser's experiences they have posted about. Disney restaurants (even ones not owned and operated by Disney) have ALWAYS been hit or miss. At least in the last 7-8 years since I've been going regularly. V&As is the only restaurant on property that seems to get consistently good reviews.

Same here, Orlando Mike. Scott Joseph is not the best authority, even though he likes to think he is. LOL.

My DP and I shared the Dim Sum appetizer recently and found it quite nice. It was hot, fresh and nothing was stale. We sat at the small bar, as there was no way we were going to be able to get a table. The bar chairs are nice to sit in, but very awkward to use. High and heavy. They need wheels!

The bartenders were one of each, one attentive and helpful, the other too important to be serving the likes of us. LOL. The attentive one made me a lovely drink that wasn't too sweet (not big on sweet).

And no, I'm not usually a fan of Landry's (and don't care for Rainforest at ALL). Threw that in just to give a feel for our perspective.

Expensive? Uhhhhh, it's Disney! LOL.

On the same day we did try to have a look at Tusker's but it was controlled tighter than an military armory, and we couldn't even get a peek. What's up with that?

Tough review!! Having been to Yak and Yeti for lunch, I'll just say that the review was "sort" of harsh. But our meal was only fair, and the menu is mostly ordinary Chinese.
It was never intended to be a Signature restaurant--and it certainly isn't. In fact, it's pretty ordinary in most respects.
Keep in mind-Scott Joseph was the guy who simply "raved" about Juan and Only's when it was open at the Swan/Dolphin. In fact, it wasn't even as good as Chi-Chi's or Chilies. It closed after only a few years.

I wouldnt let a review deter me from going to any restaurant. But overall the things I have heard with the Yak & Yeti it doesnt sound that good.

I feel that the Yak & Yeti is a great place to eat dinner and oppose to lunch or a late lunch. and the animal kingdom is only opens most times until 7 or 8pm. Personally the entrees and from what I hear the portions are HUGE I hate feeling like a stuffed pig when I walk around the park. Needless to say I have a hard time controlling myself when it comes to pan asian food so Im sure I will be stuffed if I went and ate there. I guess my point is to ME this place seems more like a late night dinner as oppose to a mid day lunch type of place, that is why i did not make nor plan to make ADRs there. If for some reason I was there and wanted to try it out I wouldnt let a bad review deter me from eating there.

We ate there last month for lunch. While we may not eat there on every trip I thought the food was good. I had the Dim Sum basket and I thought it was fresh and hot. I do have a few complaints though. !. Too high of prices for standard chinese food ( I know it's Disney but it's still too high.) 2. Why not have better selections, very poor menu. I can get the same foods at my local chinese place.

I agree. I can't judge something myself until I actually try it. Going by someone else's opinion, especially someone who you've never met, and doesn't know your tastes, is just a silly reason for not trying something.

It really depends on what you like to eat. Someone who loves oriental food will probably love it there and if you dont like it, obviously you wont like the food. Either of those people might write a review about it saying they love it or hate it.

Here's my advice.. try it if you like oriental food and dont if you dislike oriental food. I personally enjoyed the counter service and will eat there again

Haven't eaten there but walking past it several times I was wishing we had an ADR. It smelt absolutely heavenly. We commented each time we went past.

I go and experience it for myself.....
I'll be going to Yak and Yeti in April.....hopefully I won't Yak

Well, I do agree with that. There's really no point in going to an Asian restaurant if you don't like Asian food, you're probably not going to like it.

Now I love Asian food, just about every kind, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc, so I'm looking foward to eating at Yak and Yeti.

I have to disagree with you. I love Le Cellier, and my last visit there was exceptional, except I wasn't wowed by one of the desserts. And I know food.

I respectfully disagree with you on this; as someone who enjoys many WDW restaurants and who will be trying Yak & Yeti for herself, I've tried LeCellier on 3 different trips and disliked my meal each time, AND I've posted those reviews here on the DIS.

To make a blanket statement that people here on the DIS will like a particular restaurant simply because it's popular on the boards is entirely inaccurate.

I agree with everything you say but note that my opinion of the topic, Yuk and Yeti is strictly second hand from posters whose views I trust.

As Uncle pointed out they are not portraying Y&Y as a Signature so at least that's an accurate catagorization.

As for Le Cellier, we find it a great lunch restaurant but it's certainly no 'real' steakhouse. I mean Ruths' Chris, The Palm, even Shula's worst steak puts Le Cellier to shame. It's simply a quality issue.
