Sorry if this has been discussed, but are there plans to replace the YCG with another restaurant? I can't imagine them not doing it, but you never know.

I know the YCG wasn't too popular, but I really loved their bread and cheese spreads! Our meals there always did the trick, but dollar for dollar there were plenty of other places I would rather eat.

Thanks for any info.

Breakfast and lunch are now served at Yachtsman Steakhouse. It wasn't a buffet breakfast however.

I have read a rumor that they will be replacing the Yacht Club Galley with a more upscale type restaurant. Just a rumor though!

At this time the reason behind the closing of the YC Galley is budget cuts and no plans are in the works presently to reopen this location. But you never know.

I really think that if occupancy rates are up, which they seem to be, particularly as we move into the busier seasons, that it is unreasonable for Disney NOT to reopen this restaurant. A four star resort should have certain amenities and one should be a moderately priced, on site restaurant. Frankly it doesn't look good to go to the lobby and see a restaurant space not being used, especially one that is so visable and prominent as the Yacht Club Galley. I remember several years ago when Ariel's was closed. The reason for the closure was initially cited as needing to make more space for Beaches and Cream. There has been no expansion of Beaches and Cream in the six or more years that Ariels has been closed. The real reason, as told to me when I attended a breakfast with the department managers, was that Disney could not justify maintaining more than one restaurant that served only one meal per day. (dinner). At the time, the other restaurant was the Yachtsman's Steak House. Now that they serve additional meals, they have even eliminated that "problem". To me, it is disconcerting.

Yea, Dawn, I think the whole thing is about to go bankrupt personally. ;)

The EPCOT retaurants are an option for BC/YC. It may be Disney found they needed fewer restaurants than first planned. They closed the deluxe restaurant (Ariels) in the BC and the moderate restaurant in the YC. The Boardwalk restaurants may have also reduced the demand for these restaurants.

Last summer when we stayed at BC, Donna, a CM at B&C told us Disney was researching a type food court that could be open 24 hours a day. She also mentioned something about refillable cups with a bar code on them so only Y&B Club guests could use it. I told her that when I sent my survey back in, I was going to recommend that they enlarge B&C utilizing the space formerly used by Ariel's.

but don't you think that if they closed it in more (so that it wasn't visible from the lobby) that YCG would be a great place for a nice food court, something like the one at the Poly (Kona, I think)?
There is really nowhere to get a moderately priced, quick breakfast other than the bakery and B&C, and that BW area has so many people!
I, personally, would LOVE an upscale-type food court there!

Going Bankrupt is not a concern I have. My concern is a resort that is rated as a four star resort has a certain criteria it must meet. Clearly, closing a very visable, moderately priced restaurant in the lobby of the hotel cannot be a good thing. It doesn't matter that they have a close proximity to other restaurants, they don't have one there. I have been staying at the Yacht Club since they opened and it is sad to see the cost cutting measures that they have implemented, have such a negative impact on what once was a very fine resort. Some of those cut backs over the years include the elimination of free coffee in the lobbies of the Yacht and Beach Club, the placement of coffee makers in the room but charging for the coffee and then having those removed. The replacement of coffee in the lobby but restricting the times to one hour. If they ran out of coffee before 7 am, they did not fill the urn. These may seem like little things but when one can get a free cup of coffee at a Days Inn, then Disney has to do more than just have a good themed resort in a prime location. Hanalei Bay Resort has a prime location, overlooking Bali Hai on the North Shore of Kauai, they have a beautifully themed pool and incredibly gorgeous grounds, but during their time share presentation they repeatedly attempted to market themselves as a four star resort. It is beautiful, it is gorgeous but it is not four star. Without a health club and a moderately priced restaurant, they do not begin to reach four star status. I would hate to see the Yacht Club loose their status by nickel and diming types of cutbacks. Signs that say we are "improving this area for your future enjoyment" only go so far.

I too miss Yacht Club Galley. I hope they plan on putting another restaurant in -- preferably moderately priced as YCG was or a good seafood restaurant to balance out the Yactsman Steakhouse. First it was Ariels and now the YCG. What next, the Cape May Buffet???

I checked the Mobil Travel Guide last evening for 2002 and I was disappointed to see that the Yacht and Beach Club only has a three star rating. The Grand Floridian has a four star rating. I think with the pool, the location, the landscaping and the architecture, there is no reason why the Yacht and Beach Club could not be a four star resort IF they worked on improving what seems to be an accumulation of shortcomings. Providing more varied and moderately priced restaurants would certainly be an enhancement. Restoring the coffee in the lobby and the rooms, as well as turn down service.

Although deluxe hotels don't usually have food courts, DISNEY hotels (WL, Poly, GF, Contemporary) generally do. Unlike other hotels Disney hotels guests want to grab a quick bite on the way to parks or a late night snack after coming back from the parks.
Some type of informal/casual/food court restaurant for the BC/YC makes sense.

The Galley had the best clam chowder! What ever they open up in it's place I hope they still serve the same clam chowder.

I too miss the YCG. No matter how upscale the YC may try to be, there is always a need for a casual moderate place to dine. My family and I dined at the Galley many times, usually upon arrival or an extremely long day. While I am not a fan of food courts or even B&C for anything more than ice cream, I do believe there is a need for a moderately priced option. We generally enjoy dressing for a late evening dinner in a lovely restaurant, but I have seen many pepple feeding their young children at poolside just before H/H closes. It seems the YC is missing an option for many of their guests.

While I agree that such a visible place should not stay empty for long, I worked at the Galley for 1 1/2 years. The only time the place was busy was when the hotels were full to the gills or when they did the holiday buffets, so the other 300 nights of the year the place was a ghost town. There are so many choices in the area, EPCOT, Swan, Dolphin, Boardwalk, etc and so the Galley ranked pretty low on the list.
