Four of us are planning to attend a convention in January at the Yacht Club Convention Center and we have planning questions. We are trying to be budget conscious and not sure yet how much the convention rate will be for room at YC and BC. That info is coming soon. Here are my questions for now:

Would it even be reasonable to stay at a moderate and haul our cookies over to YC every day? Ride the Epcot bus and walk all the way to YC? How much would a cab fare be? (provided park was open early enough.) This seems cumbersome to me, how about you?

When you reserve a room, do you pay for the entire stay or just first night? (Sorry, not transportation related, but still wondering...we are DVC, haven't paid for a room in a decade.)

What if we used my DVC points and stayed at OKW? This is very close to YC, right? How much would a cab fare be between these two resorts?

Do you have any other brainstorms for me?

Thanks!

If you do take the bus, you would not want to take the Epcot bus because you would have to enter Epcot (w/admission) and walk all the way through. You would want to take the DHS bus and boat or walk to YC.

Traveling on WDW Transportation from one non-Monorail resort to another non-adjacent, non-Monorail resort can be quite time-consuming. It involves transferring somewhere, which means waiting for a bus or boat twice.

When transportation to DHS is operating, you can transfer there between a bus and an Epcot Resorts boat. That's better than going via Epcot, but it will still take a long time. And depending how early the convention starts, that may not be an option.

Probably would be best to take a cab from one resort to the other. You said 4 people are going - you could split the cost. Cab will probably run $10 -$12. Would the closest mod be CBR?

We plan on heading to the parks every day, and I have an AP, so using a ticket to walk through to Epcot isn't the issue. It would only be one bus. But i agree, still cumbersome.

Cab is only $10-$12? Not bad between the four of us.

I wonder if someone in our group could get a super deal on a small rental car. That could also work, for the right price.

Thanks for your help! Any other thoughts?

Convention rates I've had for YC/BC are usually very good, like 50% off. But that's still a big nut if you are trying to be mindful of the costs.
On concetnion rate, not sure when the whole bill is due. Probably 45 days in advance.

Other ideas: Have you considered Swan or Dolphin? I bet in January you could get a great rate on two rooms. They often run a "buy one, second room less" promo. They also honor AAA, AARP, AP and other discounts. Many of the DIS type websites have promos for them too. This way the schlepp over to YC Convention center would be a very pleasant walk, and requires no car or cab or cooridination.

If you stay mod and bus or cab it, problem you might have with walking through Epcot is the timing, since you cannot get in until 9 and it'd be another 20 minutes ot walk to YC-CC. Agree with PP you'd be walking from DHS -- a healthy 20 minutes, but pleasant walk.

Since you're DVC members, why not reserve a room on points at the BCV or BWV? Then just walk to the YC. Good luck!

Keep in mind that if you walk through Epcot, you're tied to Epcot's hours. Future World opens at 9:00 a.m. and World Showcase opens at 11:00 a.m.

If you want to rely on one bus plus a longer walk, you'd be better off taking a bus to the Disney's Hollywood Studios park and walking to the Yacht Club from there. Buses begin running earlier than the park 9 a.m. opening, and you don't have to enter the park.

That's the best idea yet. The rates can be similar to Disney's Moderates. It's full service hotel, in the same class as a Disney Deluxe resort. The Swan and Dolphin are next door to the Yacht Club. And, as HelenParr noted, there are often excellent rates available though various discount programs and promotions.

I would DEFINITELY check Swan or Dolphin rates - even if they're higher at that time than a mod, the convenience would be worth it. Dolphin is literally a few hundred feet from YC. VERY easy walk, even in the heat & humidity, it's not far at all. Rooms there can be found as low as $119/nt at certain times of the year, and there are always promos there. They also offer suites starting around $300 that would sleep 4 or more.

OKW is not conveniently close to YC. As others have pointed out, using Disney transportation is going to be time consuming - and could involve some walking up to a mile or more if you're heading through Epcot, or walking from DHS. Not recommended if it's hot or humid.

We use cabs when staying at Swan & Dolphin & have paid anywhere from $12-$18 plus tip to go places within WDW. So I'd assume those rates would be the same travelling to/from YC. That divided by 4 will still probably be cheaper than renting a car.

That was my thought as well. CBR or Pop would be about a $10 cab ride to YC. But if you have points to use, stay at either BC or BW.

Taking a bus to Epcot each morning is not going to work...you'll have to walk all the way through Epcot, which also means park admission. You could bus to DHS and then walk back to YC..about 20 mins.

Thank you all for your suggestions and idea. It's all very helpful discussion. We are looking at several of these options.

Convention rates at Disney hotels are often quite good! You should hold off making any decision until you get the info. Are you each getting your own room, or are you doubling up? I also agree that Swan and Dolphin would be a good option for you.

And you are correct! We finally got our rate and it's excellent. Yacht Club, here we come!
