I booked POR for Feb 23 thru Mar 1 2005! I'm taking my 3 and 5 year old boys and my Mother in Law (hubby sitting this one out). She babysits them while I work 4 days a week and is the best Grandma & Mother in Law ever! I got very lucky most people do not like their Mother in Law, but mine is the best. Anyway the trip to POR is a surprise for her Xmas present! I would love any suggestions on how to surprise her and the boys Xmas morning! I thought a treasure hunt with her and the boys but since they can not read I didn't know what to do. She knows I'm a Disney freak and will guess it pretty quick. We are going to AKL next Wed and then on our first ever cruise on the Magic! Can't wait but the Disney Freak in me made my book another trip already. I thought about buying a Xmas Mickey and put tickets in his hands and give it to her but I thought I would see if you guys had any good ideas! I want it to be special!

I think your idea of Mickey holding tickets sounds very cute. It will be easy for your kids to understnad too. I hae also read on another post somewhere that someone made a puzzle that had pictures of their past vacations on it and a "letter from Mickey" saying he couldn't wait to see them again in FEB. They ordered it from a website and it looked very nice. I'm sure you could find the post on it . It was for another surprise question. It sounds like a magical present and I'm sure no matter how you present it they will be covered with smiles when they find out. Happy Holidays

How about surprising her with a little luxury from the GF spa........a facial, massage or anything she wouldn't normally do for herself! You could make a PS for breakfast at 1900 Park Fare and since you are there tell her she has an appointment for whatever you decide to give her. These are special treats that most of us normally do not do for ourselves.

i say don't do anything under the tree.
while everyone is unwrapping presents, slip over to the kids bedrooms and put the mickey holding tickets on their beds. hopefully they'll come running down the steps again all excited. while your kids are all excited, turn to your mil and hand her her tickets. "we couldn't think of going without you."
by the way por ROCKS!!!!

Barefooter, what a wonderful and generous surprise.

One year my husband and I wanted to give airline tickets to Italy to my parents as a surprise for Christmas. I, too, debated how to "surprise" the most wonderful people we knew. I eventually decided that I would buy a beautiful tour guide to Italy, and in the back of it, slip the airline tickets.

I had the book overnight delivered to my parents (they live in a different part of the country than I do). My Mom said she opened the package and thought, "What an odd gift from Janet. But at least she remembered that one day I had hoped to travel to Italy." As she looked through the book, she became engrossed in its gorgeous photos. And then the tickets fell out. She about had a heart attack when she realized that the tickets were the real gift, not the book.

So consider purchasing a few different guide books for Walt Disney World. Your MIL's book could be the standard book or the book for mature travelers. Your children's books (and you'll need one book for each child and the books better be identical) would be a WDW guidebook that was written specifically for children (found at any bookstore). Or you could buy each child a pilot's hat and place the tickets inside, or a large toy airplane and place the tickets inside. You get the idea.

No matter how you choose to spring the surprise on your MIL and children, have a wonderful vacation.
