XH took the kids to see "The Lovely Bones"

Definitely not a smart move on his part. If it makes you feel any better though, I'd imagine that most people saw a disturbing movie before they were old enough. My dad was usually a pretty careful guy about content. However, somehow he thought it was appropriate for me to watch JAWS at about 4 (and a few months after we'd moved to an apartment right on the beach). He slipped again several years later when he let me watch Pet Sematary. That one freaked me out for ages. Gah!

My DD went last night to see this with a bunch of her friends (all 13-14). They loved it, although my DD and two of her friends said they cried their eyes out.

I read the book and HATED it. Not because I found it disturbing, but a certain scene or two made it completely implausible for me.

Anyway, my DD and her friends were in no way disturbed by this movie, just thought it was very sad. Have to say, part of me didn't think my DD could feel compassion for anyone, so in a strange way, I was glad to see that something took a emotional hold on her, if that makes any sense.

I'm thinking of taking my dd16 too see this we both want to see it very much so...we mostly have the same taste in movies except she is into hard core horror and I'm not..heck this girl laughed her butt off at 3 watching steven king's it...just for the record I wasn't the one that let her watch that, my mom thought it was a good movie for a 3 yr old.

anyway I think the op's kids are probably too young to see this movie too ..so sorry your ex did that ...I know what a pain that is...

just hug and try your best to explain it them in words they can understand...bad ex!!!

When I was right around your girls' ages (8 or 9, I mean) I went into my parents' room when noone was in there but the TV was on; hopped up on the bed and turned to watch the last part of Carrie, where the hand comes out of the burned house... :scared1:  That freaks me out to this day, and I'm almost 40!! :rolleyes1

My mom took me to see Saturday Night Live when I was a kid. She thought it was going to be a musical. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

You have to be 17 to enter the studio during the live taping There has been that rule for many years. Did you get to see the dress rehearsal? How did you pass the age screening?

Maybe she meant Saturday Night Fever..........

Eesh. Bad move, daddy!

I can't even read the book without freaking out a little...and I'm 16.

I'm going to the movie this week, after exams...we'll see.

What age is appropriate? I read the book a few years ago, and DD begged me to read the book. I finally let her read the book. She's always been an advanced reader and is pretty mature, so I said she could. She asked if we could see the movie tomorrow. She'll be 14 years old in April.

I read the book, and would let dd13 read the book, and she's going to see the movie. At her age, I will let her read anything. Would I let my 7 and 8 year olds see the movie? No way! I would let ds11 (almost 12) see it, but he's seen pg13 movies before without any issues. I wouldn't allow dd8 to see it at his age - she's very sensitive.

I would not let my dd see it, she is almost 8. I am not even sure I would let my pretty mature 11 year old son see it, he asked about it but I don't think he needs to see it.

I saw it and was a little upset by it, I read the book and knew what it was about and the book got to me too. I'm just a sap like that. It didn't disturb me/creep me out like a horror movie. Just the scenes with her parents coping with her death choked me up.

Oh and my son would be in trouble for asking dad to take him after mom said no. Did your ex think it was ok because the kids asked?
