Can anyone out there give me information on the xbox 360 live membership? My DS really wants to use his money to purchase a one month membership. He says the reason he wants the membership is that he will be able unlock armour and change the appearance of his player. From what I have gathered he will also have access to play other players on line. How safe is that? Please, any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. He is driving me crazy.

Thanks in advance.

It's just about as safe as any other internet gaming. It really depends on how old you DS is and how internet-savvy he is. If all he wants to be able to do is to unlock some special apps., then why not allow him and then change the password when he's done? That way, he won't have access to online game play.

I'm going to bump this over to the CB. Maybe someone there will have a different perspective and advice.

My son says, "Well that depends on how old he is. The language can get pretty salty on Live when your with other players. They engage in lots of trash talk sometimes. Not to mention the fact that everyone who plays on Live are really good at the games they play and normal people don't stand a chance. :rotfl:
Plus the unlockable armor is only usable when you play on Live with other people so unless he's going on Live I'm pretty sure that armor is useless"

Hope that helps!

no offense but that's not really true, Live is more social than other gaming. You create a profile, people can send you messages and talk to you. (this can be blocked of course) plus again unlocking the armor and stuff is pointless unless he's going on Live so that password thing most likely won't do much good

ITA! Good answer.

The only way people can get your personal information on live is if you tell it to them. Whenever I use Live, I don't use the mic so language and privacy aren't an issue.

We almost always play with people we know and not random people. Cuz random people usually are way better than we are. :thumbsup2

Every game has different things that happen with live. SO the game he is playing could unlock armor in the normal game, but that usually doesn't happen too much. But I know with Too Human you get special armor/weapon drops that you can't get in the regular game.

A LOT of other gaming is just as social and very similar capabilities and concerns as Live.

My son loves xbox live. He uses the headset alot and does talk to a lot of people. He has been friends with some of these people he has met for years. He deos say that some people do curse. He is 12 and most of his friends have it.

I'm sitting here listening to my DS15 chatting on Live. It's really helped him socially, since he does not have a lot of friends come over. Since it's in the next room, I can hear what's going on. He's got some friends that he's been playing with for a few weeks now.

If you go on the XBox website, there is a Family site that tells you about blocking and screening.

The XBox Live is also a great incentive for grades. If the grades drop, so does the XBox!

Good luck!
