Xbox/video games in the clubs?

In a seperate post, we checked on if they would allow video game consoles to be brought into the staterooms. Along the same decision thread guidelines, what do they have for such games in the clubs. Our son (13/14) is of tweener age for the club in the stack or the teen club.

Do they have video games consoles in these? If so, we may be able to convince him to leave the console behind.....

Thanks in advance...

Well, first of all, I'm not sure they allow you to hook up a console to their TV in the rooms. Second, unless you bought him internet, he would only be playing his standalone games, not the ones with his friends. Third, you could just remind him that all the kids on the cruise will be without their game systems and he could find friends to do stuff with.

They did have video game battles on occasion in Edge and Vibe. I know my son didn't get near a system, but he's not pushy enough to be first to the machine either. Availability might depend on how many kids are on the cruise, too.

What ship?
All of them have xbox screens that tweens can use in Edge. Vibe surprisingly has less video games but there is usually one ongoing just not always xbox.
Edge has
  • A separate room with a Wii® gaming console and flat-screen
Vibe
  • play video games on a 103ʺ LCD screen with digital surround sound.
So video games. Not necessarily every game he'll want to play, as it depends on what counselors and other kids want on

Why? It's not the time for video games. Why even go on a cruise if you are so worried about "boring entertainment ".

Time to try new things.

Why bother posting the same thing on two different threads? I don't think OP asked for parenting advice.

To answer your question, OP, my 12 year old played video games in the Edge on our cruise in December. He did mention that he didn't play much because there were so many kids trying play as well.

They have then but it may not be the games he is use to playing (I don't think they let M games in the clubs) and I believe they try and limit the time to be fair.

Tell the "young" kids in advance wifi isn't available aboard if possible and plausible.
Of course, understandably that isn't always applicable.

That is why you don't surprise kids with a cruise btw. We all need to plan. So do they.
Plan to do without, may not always be applicable, nor a suggested recourse. Depending on the child.
Some can plan and handle it better than others.
Please don't surprise your wifi addicted teen to a cruise and not offer them unlimited wifi.
Trust me. Been there, done that. It may create an unnecessary battle can settle.

My oldest teen admitted recently she would rather stay home than go on a 7 night cruise without internet access. OK, maybe 9 days total w/o wifi.
It's that bad. At least in our home. That was a shocking confession.

Of course we have dragged her about on vessels w/o connectivity over the years, on around 10 sailings since she was young. That may play a role btw.
She adapted. But now that she is older she needs it, like we all do. Don't we?
It was fascinating to see it develop actually. The addiction.
Of course she isn't alone now. We, as adults need it too.

All cruiselines are working expeditiously on faster internet. Some better than others.

I've read some pax choosing vessels/companies with the faster internet specifically.
I can now relate as a parent of a teen. Oh my.

We as parents use the cruise as an excuse to not be available for work and whatnot.
As vessels improve their connectivity, and it becomes another high speed redundant point, I suspect we will loose our disconnect escape from work too unfortunately. As we will no longer have an excuse regarding slow internet. I've heard the word is already out in many companies. Can't hide on the cruise vessels anymore.

Who decided to add high speed internet to cruise ships?
They should be flogged. lol

:)

May us true sailors, who want to get away, somehow be protected from this high speed wifi noise infecting us.

Best of Luck to All

OP practically asked the same question to me. I don't care if the advice was given about parenting. I'm saying why bother to have an x box when you have so many other entertainment options. That's the problem with kids today. At times mine as well.

Clearly, you don't care. To each their own. I would have asked the same question for my twelve year old. We come here to get help and answers and not to get chastised. The fact that you sent me a PM says that this clearly bothers you. I've answered OP's question the best way I could. I have no interest in carrying on with you.

Do the Oceaneers clubs have video games? My son loves them and it would be fun for him to try new ones and play with other kids.

I care to see kids worrying about an xbox on a cruise or vacation in general. That's what's wrong with so many things. appreciate the feedback though.

Capacity isn't high, and don't expect first-person shooters or any M games, or ability to join the broader network.

DS says The Magic has Xbox360 and Wii U. Also had some stand alone arcade games.

And game consoles are prohibited in your cabin due to compatibility issues.

My kiddo couldn't stand the Wonder's Lab "because it was all video games and tech stuff"... LOL She would call us the second the Club went to unsecured programming and she would "get stuck in the club with all the TVs and Computers".

The lab (and the club) were recently redone so its more themed.
Yes

Yes! The Dream!
The Dream has an entire room of Disney Infinity, so thats definitely Xbox, there might be another console in the Lab (I don't remember if I saw when during open house)

Yes. When we sailed on the Fantasy they had them. The 2 times I was able to get my 2 DS, 10 and 8, to go to the kids club (they hated it because there wasn't a lot for them to do that was geared toward their age--at the time it was "free play" except for some way younger activities for the 5 and under set, but my point is that they could never get on the computers or the video game consoles because of their popularity, so good luck! LOL)

Hmmm, I really hope I'm interpreting this wrong, but is it anybody's place to "worry" about someone else's kid's video game playing habits on vacation?

OP, as another PP stated, they won't allow your DS to bring his x-box console aboard. Does he have a portable system, like a Nintendo DS or Playstation?
