DS 10 wants this for Christmas.

Any suggestions and tips for which one to buy--I think I need the kit but should I get the 3 month subscription, in case he doesnt like it. How easy is it to add more months?

I'm not sure how it works, but I do believe there is a one month card that is available as well. Why not start with that?

I know that the Xbox 360 (yeah, like that's available now! ) comes with a subscription and you can upgrade to a better package if you want.

I would buy the kit , that comes with a year and the head set. My kids 8 and 13 have had it for 6 months and use it everyday. They love it.

yes you need a router. you also have to put in a credit card number just for id purpose.

Ohh no this is starting to sound complicated

It's not really complicated at all. My son loves XBOX live. We got the 12 month with a new headset for his 360 he is getting for christmas. It cracks me up to hear him talking to these people he is gaming with.
I have never heard of a true gamer not really likeing live if they like xbox, that is the true draw for many and the drawback of PS2 and the rest is they don't have a thing like live on it.
