xbox 360 price

We got the XBox Arcade version last week at Walmart (for the first of the doorbuster sales), for $198, and we (instantly) got a $100 walmart gift card. I think I saw an ad that they are doing it again this weekend, but I'm not positive. The XBox arcade version does NOT have a hard drive.

I was told that Microsoft doesn't allow them to be sold for less. WalMart got around it by offering the $100 gift card. Maybe more retailers will be doing something similar.

Last year on Black Friday, we got the Arcade one for $199 and it came with an extra controller and a hard drive as a bonus! I actually bought it online(Circuit City) and then picked it up Friday am.

If its for "real gamers" the hard drive is NECESSARY!!! Just be aware of WHAT you're actually getting!

With the $100 gift card from walmart you could ad the harddrive later. From what I know those kinds of sales are all you are going to get because the price recently dropped and the console prices are set, same for wii. There will be gift card deals or bundles but the $199 is as low as the base price is going to go.

We knew very well about the lack of the hard drive...and in fact about 15 minutes after we got home, DH put the hard drive from our old XBox into it...our older one was not working right, and we knew that the issue was not the hard drive, so this was a GREAT way to replace it for us. But yes, the buyer needs to realize that there is no hard drive and there are apparently (I don't know these things, but everyone else in the family does!) things that you can't do or have to do differently if you have no hard drive.

With game systems you will almost never see a price reduction. These prices are set by the company and stores are not allowed to adjust the retail price on them. However, you may come across deals like Walmart did (get a gift card for a specific amount) or you will see bundles. Bundles are where the system is sold with something extra... usually additional controllers or games. Bundles will be what you see mostly during the holiday seasons.

This is true. The built in hard drives on the 360 are where you store saved game files and download movies and games from xbox live to. Without a built in hard drive you will have to buy one separate. Right now, a 120 GIG Xbox hard drive runs about $150. You WILL need a hard drive one way or another... otherwise you can not save game progress, save whole games to the system (to reduce load speeds and lessen the amount of work the system has to do), download movies, download demos, download games and additional content, or save your profile.

If we are not playing on line would the arcade version work. We want to play call of duty, viva pinata.... or should we just get a 60g.
