Wyndham Hotel on International Drive

Hi I need help,
I went on Price Line and got the Wyndham Hotel on I- drive for $35 a night. Later I looked at the reviews and they didn't seem so hot. I wish I had thought to check there first. I also wish I had not put the Universal Area in for a choice. I really wanted something away from I- drive. Anyway I am stuck with it and I was wondering what people thought of this hotel? Is my husband going to kill me or kiss me? I made these plans w/o checking with him and he wasn't at all happy with an I- drive hotel. He wanted to stay in our one bdrm standard view at Boardwalk Villas but I thought we could save inflated weekend points by staying offsite for the weekend. He says that's what we bought the DVC points for. I wish I hadn't been so impulsive!!!

Marylyn: I stayed at this hotel in April and I found it to be very nice. I read the other reviews when I got back and was shocked! I had no problems at all.

We decided to add the prior weekend to our triip the last minute. We were staying at the Royal Pacific afterwards and needed something quickly and it was during Spring Break! We got the Wyndham for $38 a night.

Yes, I-Drive is busy but I liked having a variety of place to walk to for breakfast or shopping. There is a Walgreens right across the street. The room we had was lovely and quiet, if you exclude my LOUD son! The service was great, also.

I hope your experience is similar to mine!

I was so impressed with their manager Jazmin who upgraded us because it is my birthday! We aren't going unitl December so I can't help you with what it is like but if Jazmin is any indication than I am sure it will be wonderful!

I thought this place was fantastic! The room was large, clean and nicely furnished, the grounds were lovely, lush and tropical. There were so many places to walk to and you can catch the I-ride trolley right outside if you want to see the sights without fighting the traffic. Jazmin even had a welcome basket with goodies ready because it was my husband's birthday! I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

We have stayed at the Wyndham on International Drive many times. We have never had any problems and have always been very pleased. I do not agree with the reviews either. If you find anything in your room unacceptable, I believe that the staff would be very willing to fix the problem. The grounds are beautiful and ducks swim in the lagoons. My child always loves feeding them. Very nice pools. I think that you will be pleased with your accomadations.
As far as International Drive goes, there is a way around the busy part that is very accesible from the Wyndham. All you have to do is get on Sand Lake Road that runs right beside the resort, and then get on Universal Drive and it runs paralel to International Drive but is nowhere near as busy.

Thanks everyone for your nice replies. I really feel better now. Should I call and tell Jazmine that it is my birthday( which it happens to be) ahead of time? Any chance of using Wydham by Request with a Priceline Reservation?
I did a search on I drive and found a buffet, I think it is called Sweet Tomatoes that serves fresh salads and such. Anyone try that?

They should know it is your birthday as it is in your wyndham by request profile, unfortuneatly they will not honor wyhdham by request on a priceline reservation.

I just called and told them it was my birthday and that I booked through Priceline. I spoke with Darren and he told me because the rooms are reserved so cheaply they will not give any extra ammenities like room upgrades or birthday baskets etc, etc.

well at least you got a good deal! The rooms regular rate is over $100 a night so with the $65.+ you saved you can buy yourself a nice little birthday gift! Have a great trip!

Our room was awful. They must have different types of rooms at this resort because our room was neither large nor comfortable. Nor was the part of the resort we saw, "tropical". More like a roadside Motel 6. (I'm not saying there isn't a nice part of this resort, we just weren't in it)

We reserved through Priceline and were given a room at the very end (next to Ripley's I think it is???). It was an outside corridor w/parking lot view and view of side of a building. The room wasn't clean (moldy), and the a/c (which only blew on high) blew right onto the bed which was right next to the window.

We checked in late (9:00 on a Saturday night) and checked out as soon as we woke up.

I'm sure there are nice rooms here, but since I've read so many reviews like mine, I would assume there are a good portion of bad rooms.

We didn't complain because we were to darn tired after driving 1000 miles and just wanted to sleep. However, if you get a room you aren't happy with, I would really suggest you ask for another room.

The reviews I read about a couple of the priceline hotels keep me waffling back and forth about whether to use priceline for a night in the Universal area. For those who are familiar with them and/or have used Priceline in the Disney area can we have a roll call of greats and horrors? I think many could benefit from it.

From the Wyndam - you go right and Universal is your first right this is if you leave from the I drive side!!

there is a drive way on the Universal Blvd side too.

We got the Orlando Hyatt for $35 a night in May. The rooms were very large and clean. They gave us two rooms( one for my sister) across the pool from each other. The pool was in the courtyard right outside our door. We were all very happy with the rooms. I didn't know what to expect when I bid on Price Line but I was happily surprised by our treatment at the Hyatt.


Now after that last post I am scared to death I will be treated like a migrant worker at the Orlando Wyndham. Has anyone else had this experience staying at the Wyndham on I Drive after booking through Priceline. I think if they don't want PL people they should not put their hotel in the pool for bidders. When I called today to tell them about my birthday and that I was a Wyndham by Request customer the guy said he didn't think they could do anything for a PL guest but that the guy in charge would call me back. Well guess what, they never called! I am afraid we are not going to be welcomed at all. As I said in my original post my DH wanted to spend the weekend at Boardwalk Villas in our reserved one bdrm but I thought we should stay off site for the weekend and I thought he agreed when I asked him. He says he didn't agree with any such thing. He was pretty annoyed after I made this reservation and told him about it out of the blue at breakfast this morning. I don't even want to go anymore. Maybe I should just just give up trying to save money or points or whatever!!\

Here is my take. Alot of these hotels try to treat Priceline customers different. For instance, we are staying at the Sheraton Safari for a night next month. When I emailed their reservations dept. to add a couple requests such as non smoking, 2 beds, I got the standard 'we cant modify Priceline reservations' reply.

BUT I emailed them back and copied right on Pricelines page that says rooms are requested non smoking for 2 people but that any special requests such as bedding etc. can be made through the hotel and is based on availability. Of course I havent heard back but I let them know how I felt about their acting like having a Priceline reservation is like having the plague. They are so misinformed its terrible.

We have not experienced this at all hotels we have gotten with Priceline and if we had any problems at checkin with the condition of our room I would certainly raise a stink and let them know that its not my problem that they participate in Priceline and I was able to get a room. Once you have a reservation you should be treated the same as everyone else.

If you do get there and you encounter problems I would ask to speak to the manager and say those same things I just mentioned. If you dont get anywhere tell them you will be calling Priceline and complaining before you check out and do it! Bring their number with you. I know its a hassle and hopefully you wont need it but I honestly dont think this should happen and it seems that Priceline should be aware while you are there that you are being placed in a dumpy room.

When you come out of the resort onto Sand Lake Road take a right. The first crossroad you come to will be Universal Blvd. If you take a left it will take you Universal Studios, if you take a right it will take you back down toward the convention center. There are many access roads all along that will bring you back up to International Drive depending on where you want to go. We always come up right beside FAO Swartz. That part of International Drive does not seem to be as busy.

I think you will be pleased with the Wyndham. Another tip: We have always stayed in Bldg. 11,12,or 13. It sounds like the rooms up next ro Ripley's may not be as nice from a previous poster. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have if possible.

We stayed at the Wyndham in March on a promotion from Fairfield Resorts. Wyndham charged us a fairly high nightly service charge which I didn't like. We were in a good location but I didn't care for the room. It wasn't terrible, just not the best. The carpet was so awful I didn't want to walk barefoot on it. I don't think it was actually dirty, just really, really stained. There were a lot of small problems, (phone didn't work) etc. but they did take care of them promptly. Worst thing that happened, the smoke alarm went off in several buildings. Talk about loud! We had to leave the room while things were checked out. Had to hold your ears also. They checked for 1/2 hour or so and finally turned them off. Probably wasn't the resorts fault but it was annoying.

Oh, I forgot. We got calls during the night. Said they were from the manager. (I really didn't believe this.) Called the front desk and evidently this wasn't an isolated incident. Don't know if it was a disgruntled employee or what.

I stayed there for one night last Friday. I felt skeezy the whole time I was in the room. It smelled, you could tell it hadn't been cleaned thoroughly in quite some time.

I stayed at the Wyndham with DS and DD on a Priceline bid in 3/02. We were treated very well, and enjoyed our stay in building 13. Our room was clean, we really enjoyed the pool late at night, and our stuffed animals were even arranged on the bed.

That long ago I was able to link my Wyndham by Request number to the reservation, and received a "welcome gift," tho it's clear they're not doing that any longer for PL customers.

On our trip we were not treated any differently.
