WWYD - armored car spills money on freeway near San Diego, and people are collecting the money and taking it

We've had this happen a couple of times in Miami -- and more recently than 2019, lol.

They might be charged for creating a hazard on a freeway by exiting their cars on the roadway.

Yes they may be charged for blocking the freeway since that is much easier to prove. With a massive backlog of felony cases I doubt the prosecutors will go after the people who grabbed some ones and fives on the freeway.

I'd be much more afraid of being run over than being arrested.

The entire freeway was pretty much shut down though. There really wasn't much danger of anyone getting run over at that point.

In that case, I couldn't participate if I wanted to...which I wouldn't.

I personally wouldn't go out there. I know it's not legal to take the money, but people do stupid things thinking that with numbers they're not going to get caught. But the ones who took selfies and posted them to social media where they were easily identified don't seem to bright.

Well the good samaritan me would of pulled over to the far right shoulder, hazard lights on, and then would of asked permission to help recollect the money to give it back.

Yeah I've heard of stuff like this before, but in this case there were tons of people taking photos/video of this, including someone who was stupid enough to post that she took the money on social media along with video. That takes a special kind of stupid to post one's own criminal conduct.

Granted it wouldn't be the first person to apparently be proud of breaking the law enough to let the world know about it.
People don't realize that it doesn't belong to them and it is theft to keep. They think finders keepers, which isn't how the laws are in most States.
