WWYD, 2 rooms at Fairfield or 1 at DLH?

Struggling with a hotel choice, so I thought I'd throw this out here to get some opinions.

Some background: We are heading out to California in March, and at the end of a 10-day road trip are a few days at Disneyland. Like many people around here, we are WDW veterans, but this will be our first trip to DL. We are a family of 5 with 3 children in the 8-14 age range.

I'm debating between two connecting rooms at the Fairfield Inn or one room at the Disneyland Hotel. The price for us is pretty close between the two options, so do I go for atmosphere or do I go for space!? What would you do and why?

I've stayed at both and in your situation I would definitely choose the Disneyland Hotel. The Disneyland Hotel has that magical feeling. Beautiful grounds, beautiful pools (with waterslides), a few different restaurants to choose from, steps away from Downtown Disney and very close to the Monorail. I love the rooms at the Disneyland Hotel and the light-up headboards. Personally, I'd rather have 1 room at the Disneyland Hotel than 2 at the Fairfield. We are a family of four and our kids are 7 & 5. I'm guessing with the ages of your kids the extra space is probably more appreciated.

I've stayed at the Fairfield Inn and had a wonderful experience too. Easy walking distance, enjoyable looking pool (although we didn't use it), nice size rooms. Also, the staff always went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed. I was actually quite impressed.

I guess it depends on how much you need that extra space. I'm big on extra space and staying in suites or even rental homes when traveling/vacationing but at Disneyland (if I can get a great rate) I'm happy to trade the extra space for being on site and getting early entry and the other perks. We also hit the parks hard and are rarely in our room. Hope that helps!

We are also WDW veterans going on a road trip to California. It will be our first and most likely only visit to DL. At WDW we stay at wilderness most of the time. I wondered about what to do as well. I first booked at Fairfield too, but under further consideration and advice from this board switched to DLH. I'm still a little torn about cost, but excited to stay there too. I'm hoping it will be warm enough for pools and those cool looking waterslides.

For you both choices sound good. You probably can't go wrong either way.

DLH for sure. The first time we went to Disneyland after many many trips to WDW we stayed off site at Hojo. It was a REALLY big adjustment just walking out and down a regular street to the hotel... not magical at all, especially if you are used to staying on site at WDW. I would definitely stay at DLH.

This is at the end of a 10 day road trip, right? How do the kids get along in close quarters for that period of time? If they get along well for the most part, I'd pick the DLH. If by the end of 10 days they will be getting on each others nerves, I'd consider the Fairfield.

We are a family of 5, and we stay at BWPPI in the minisuite. I would love to stay on property, but the minisuite is $161, and it works well for us and saves us a bundle!

I have stayed at both. Disneyland Hotel hands down! You could always split up your group for a short time, if you are getting on each others nerves, and go shopping in DTD, or to the pool, etc.

I've never stayed at the Fairfield but I adore the Disneyland Hotel. You will definitely get a more magical feeling by staying there. Plus, you get the option of Early Entry into one of the two parks every morning.
