I was wondering how others try to calculate points for a dish that you make where you do not have the exact numbers available? Use the standard points for a similiar item given in the WW companion books? Do you guess based on the ingredients? Do you try to add points for the individual ingredients divided by the number of servings, etc?
The reason I am asking is because I made a batch of spicy chicken tortilla soup for lunch this afternoon and I really was not sure how to count the points. My WW companion guide lists 1 cup of "chicken tortilla soup" at 4 points. I had 1.5 cups so I could count it as 6 points. My WW companion guide also list 1 cup of "tortilla soup" as 6 points so I could count is at 9 points.
If I use the recipe I came up with the following (approx):
Onion = 0 points
Garlic = 0 points
2T Vegetable Oil = 6 points
Green Chilies = 0 points
Can of Stewed Tomatoes = 3 points
Chicken Broth = 1 point
Worcestershire Sauce = 0 points
Spices = 0 points
Flour = 2 points
Chicken Breast = 6 points
Lite Sour Cream = 3 points
I got approximately 21 points for the entire batch and I got approximately 5 1.5 cup servings out of my batch. That would be a little over 4 points per serving.
How would you count this?
