My DH, DS, and I were headed back to Seattle from Phoenix on Alaska Airlines yesterday - I noticed there were a lot of people at the gate so told the ticket agent she could bump us to a later flight if we could get free airline passes and out that same day. She said the flight was overbooked by 7 but later flights that day were overbooked as well. We ended up getting lucky and actually made it on the next flight out and got our passes. I was told to book as early as possible as free pass seats are very limited.

We already are booked for a DCL cruise for 12/16 so I called Alaska Airlines when I got home. I could not get a flight to Orlando for the date I needed but could get a roundtrip to Seattle/Miami 12/14 - 12/23. So I took it - those tickets are going for 390.00 a piece so I've saved myself 1170.00 for the trip. And to think I agonized about staying at the Grand Floridian during the final 4 nights - maybe I should upgrade to concierge -:)

We'll meander up to Port Canaveral to get the ship and hightail it back to Miami on our last day. Well worth the savings -:

great news, that is the best part about flying if you have the time and dont mind waiting, its well worth free tickets.......

i was just saying to dh that if we get bumped for easter, we get to fly free for christmas

and my df and dd get a free companion tickets for christmas

:sunny:

Your chances are excellent for being bumped during Easter!

Last year, we could have been bumped THREE times.
I was so mad because my elderly mother was traveling with us and she didn't want to wait around in the airport etc.

OH well....there is always this year.....
;)

Great thread! I liked how you went up and made an offer to be bumped and on your conditions. Very Smooth!:smooth:

One of our flights for March is only selling first class seats and another looks booked according to the seating chart. We are pretty flexible on the way down and extremely flexible on the way back. I would love to be bumped (never really had the opportunity before) we need tickets for Christmas time too!:teeth:

We're flying Alaska down from Seattle to MCO for easter also - I just checked my flights and our Apr 9 redeye isn't quite full yet. But, the flight coming home on Apr 18 is completely booked - thought about trying for the bump again but I don't want to get too greedy ;) And this time there'll be 5 of us and because it's a late Sunday night anyway, I think we'll probably let another lucky few get the tickets this time. After all, just how many trips can one take in a year anyway (that's what my husband keeps asking - I'm already planned out through next year).

The moral to this story is don't be afraid to ask to get bumped and do set parameters. It may not work out but then again, it just may.

Our flight down to WDW is sold out for March. I like the idea of accepting a bump especially since we fly USAir who has a flight almost every hour to Orlando! With our APs I may be able to talk DH into a fall trip. Last time we were bumped was right after Sept. 11th when USAir had major cutbacks. We received 3 free round trip tickets per person (11 of us total), they paid for our lunch and we flew out 1.5 hours later! What a deal, thank goodness we had APs that year.

Our flight out of Philly on 2/11 (US Airways) was over booked by 13!!! The tix are there if you want them!!

:sunny: Might I suggest an overnight at Disney's Vero Beach resort on your way northward to Port Canaveral. I would guess that it is roughly an hour from the port, so a nice easy drive the morning of the cruise, with a possible stop at Hale Groves for some lovely fresh Indian River citrus (Yum!). We got an ocean view inn room at VB in January, and my wife gasped when she first looked out at the view; it was that beautiful. I expect on 12/15 there would be good deals there, or you could rent someone's DVC points. It might be a nice way to start the trip out.

how do you find out if the flight is completely booked or not. I am flying into and out of Jax so my thoughts is that they won't be.:wave2:

Pumpkinboy - thank's for the Vero beach suggestion - I hadn't considered that, probably would get us in the Disney feel before boarding the ship.

Blondiex46 - not sure about your airline but I check the flight I'm on. For example, with Alaska airlines, I go through the process of reserving the flight online - up to the point where you pick seats. If all seats are full, there's a good chance it's overbooked.
