Wow! Not a good morning for a hot-air balloon ride! pics added #5

Cool.

I know the sound of a hot air balloon & heard it last night while waiting for a friend at a park. I kept looking up for it but never saw it. Friend showed up & said it was next street over in the cemetery. I guess the trees blocked it & I never got a view. Lots of trees here compared to your photos.

Very cool and outstanding pictures! Thanks so much for sharing, that must have been very exciting to witness.

Wow, very cool! Thanks for sharing!

We live in an area with lots of wide open spaces (west of Disney), and we see balloons almost every morning. Sometimes they land in the fields around our neighborhood but only once did one make an obviously emergency landing in someone's yard!

It sounds weird when they are low enough that we can hear the flame thingy over our house. Then we usually run outside to wave at them!

This could make a good Chicken Little sequel!

Thanks for sharing the pictures, OP and IDoDis. They are all very cool!

You must live near us! They scare the heck out of our dog! They land in a field behind our street so they are always so close to our house that you can hear them from inside. Our poor dog!

This is why I prefer my hot air balloons to be tethered to a dock behind Paradiso 37!! :scared1:

Great pics! :thumbsup2

I would LOVE to see that in person. I wouldn't mind if they landed in my yard. Some of the designs are just so unique & spectacular. I don't have the guts to go in something that small (and so high in the air). It sure is a great sight to see though!

You must live near us, too! A few months ago, I had to turn around and take another route b/c one had landed right in the middle of the road to my house. I had just gotten off work and was pretty tired, so NOT very balloon-happy that day.

Back in Ohio, we would have them skim right over our barn, sometimes landing in the back field. We also lived in the flight path of the Goodyear Blimp...now THAT is an awesome thing to see flying low!

That's helium, not hot air.

I saw a MetLife and I think it was Fujifilm sitting in a small airport field. Those are huge up close, but so tiny compared to the Goodyear blimp. Which I have seen the one land at the Palm Beach hanger a few times, and of course seen it several times at baseball games and the Air and Sea Show in Ft. Lauderdale.

My old boss flies hot air balloons. I've been to a few of the Sunrise (FL) balloon races, and seen the ones that fly over Disney. They usually have a set path, and I've seen them take off and land in the field next to the Publix by Gaylord Palms.

For my mom's 50th birthday, my dad bought her a hot air balloon ride. Since my dad is scared of heights, I got to go with her. It was amazing... until we tried to land. A hard breeze caught us and flew us into a tree and we had a rough landing, but we were ok. I'd do it again in a heart beat!

Like another poster suggested, maybe it was too humid. Or maybe the air wasn't cool enough for the fire to lift the balloon.

I live in the hot air balloon capital of the world, so seeing hot air ballons flying overhead is somewhat common around here. Not so much in the heat of the summer though. Fall is the most popular time when the morning air is crisp.

Every October we have a huge event with 9 days of hot air balloons from all over the world. Approx 600 balloons launch each morning (they have to go up in waves).

Here are a few pics from the special shapes day:

Amazing! Your pics make me want to visit New Mexico for nine days in October just for the balloons!

WOW!! That's amazing. My kids would have love to have seen that outside at our house. What a cool story. Thanks for sharing. :)

Sometimes they have a hare and hound race. The hare balloon lands somewhere and the hounds have to land as close as they can to this balloon. They might have been doing this and not having a problem with the balloons.

They wouldn't do that in a neighborhood..would they?? They would go to an open field.
