I ordered something online. For some reason that I don't know and it wasn't disclosed to me at the time I made the order, it was shipped via UPS and requires a signature. It doesn't just require a signature. There has to be a person present to sign for it and receive the package.

The first attempted delivery was last Friday when no one was home. It was made at about 6:45 pm. Fine, they left a slip wich said the second attempt would be made on Monday. No time was indicated. They came again on Monday at 3:06 pm when no one was home. Of course we weren't home. We work. The slip left this time said that he final attempt would be made on Tuesday between the hours of 2 pm and 5 pm. Like I said, we work and I knew that no one would be home between 2 pm and 5 pm to sign for the package. So, I called UPS to see what could be done. They said that because of the level of service chosen by the shipper, they cannot change the time and it could only be delivered during business hours (of course the first attempt was well after business hours but I guess that's beside the point). They will not adjust the delivery time. I told them that no one would be there to receive the package between 2 pm and 5 pm so they might as well not waste their resources and attempt to deliver it.

So, they were going to send it back to the shipper (my dealing with the shipper is a different story). Well, last night, who shows up at my door around 7:30 pm but the UPS guy. He's there to PICK UP the package that is to be returned to the shipper. HELLO, I never got it. That was the reason it was being returned to the shipper. If a UPS guy was going to come to my house at 7:30 pm, why couldn't he bring my package? They can't send a truck to me to deliver my package but they can send a truck to pick up a package I don't have. Sheesh.

That would drive me nuts too. I would be tempted to call UPS and ask your very question - why is it that they could come to your house at 7:30pm and attempt to pick up the package, but they couldn't deliver it at that time as well?!

Might have to file this under "one of those things that makes no sense." I can think of many other items that fit under that heading. :lmao:

Can you request them to hold it at the UPS station and go there to sign it and pick it up? I have had to do that in the past as we were not home during the hours they wanted to deliver. It was easier for me to run to the UPS warehouse at lunch break.

This has happened to me too....no matter how many releases I was willing to sign for them to leave it on the porch, they wanted an over 18 yo to sign in person......during work hours!

They offered that but the hours of the center were too restrictive and the location too far away to make it feasible.

my neighbor and I regularly sign for each other's packages. If I am expecting one and know when it will be delivered and I won't be home, I make a sign and ask them to deliver to the neighbor. Is there a neighbor you could work this out with? Or could you get it delivered to your work?

I went through this same painfull process, now I just get everything shipped to my work address.

1 - My neighbors work and have lives too. There is no guarantee that anyone will be home when UPS comes and I'm not about to ask a neighbor to hang around all day "just in case." Especially when I can never return the favor becuase I work too.
2 - Some businesses do not allow employees to receive personal packages at work.

That is exactly what we do.

Oh man is this ever a source of :confused3 for me. I'm at a loss as to why anyone uses the package delivery services. On top of the difficulty I've had with them UPS makes a habit of blocking in the wheelchair ramp or the accessible parking at my work. I can understand not clueing in about the ramp and blocking it once, but everyday when you know someone needs it :confused3.

I used to have medication delivered by a parcel service and they literally would tell you morning and then show up in the afternoon and vice versa. This was especially difficult because we couldn't miss the shipment. I literally had to have it delivered to a casual friend 8 blocks away one time.

I live in a huge city so I expected that I could pick up parcels from UPS no problem. Someone sent something to me UPS and I called and asked where the pick-up centre was :scared1: I'm guessing it would take me an hour and a half in heavy traffic which is a problem because it closes at 7pm and isn't open on the week-end.

I already wasn't impressed with UPS because I had called to leave them my buzzer number and the delivery person just didn't bother. It didn't matter because I wasn't home anyway. When I found out I wouldn't be able to pick it up, I was thrilled that they would hold it for a week and deliver then :cheer2:. But they just kept delivering it. After the second attempt I called and reminded them that they said they would hold it and deliver on X date. They apologized and said it was all right there in the computer. Then I got the third notice, saying it was being sent back to the shipper.

Last week I called a new supplier to verify they were delivering by regular post. They said they would so I placed an order. They sent it out by Canpar instead which would have been fine, since I had a vacation day on Monday the day it showed up, and I was home the entire day. Well it would have been fine, if the delivery person had of taken two seconds to bother to buzz me, what with my name being neatly listed in the directory and all. They didn't, so I leave for work on Tuesday morning I notice a Canpar note in the front window and think nothing of it. Its still there when I come home so I take a look so I can deliver it to the tenant, and its for me. Second delivery was Tuesday... which I missed. I call first thing in the morning and they have of course sent it back to the warehouse :sad2:

Contact the shipper and tell them that since the item was never delivered, you will need a refund of the charges.

If they refuse to refund, contact your Credit Card company or Paypal or whomever and dispute the charge. Since they will be unable to show proof of delivery, the charge will be reversed.

Sorry, dealing with UPS can be a pain in the butt sometimes. Fedex is even worse.

Is it me? Did I do something to tick you off? Your reply just seems short and rude. I'm really sorry I tried to help and give you ideas on what might work. Now I'm sorry I even bothered.:confused3

This reminds me of the time that a tracked package was marked as delivered on the UPS site, but I didn't receive it. I was home all day and the truck never even drove down our street. So I reported to UPS that it was marked as delivered, but I didn't have it.

A week later, on Saturday morning, a UPS guy came to the door, looking for the package. Um...yeah, I reported that I didn't receive it, so why would you come to the same address to pick it up? :confused3

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude. Perhaps my frustration with the situation is coming through in my posts.

You're right. This could work for some. It just doesn't for me. But I do appreciate the suggestion.

I did contact the shipper. They said that when they received it back they would ship it out again. Maybe I'll get lucky and actually receive it this time. On the second return to the shipper, I'll get a refund.

This happened to me one Christmas. I bought my mother a beautiful bracelet, and because it was over $500, I had to sign for it. Exactly the same as you, the three attempts came when I was working. My neighbor agreed to sign for it. I left a note asking the UPS driver to take it next door. Nope, they couldn't do it. I asked them to leave it on the enclosed and unlocked front porch. Nope, no can do. My medication they'll leave no problem, but not a bracelet. I drove 45 minutes to the UPS office to pick it up only to find out it wasn't even there. It was on a special truck that makes deliveries at night. I finally got it on Christmas Eve.
