After reading the thread about the $10 per point rental, I checked the ebay listings on Old Key West. Someone has an auction for a studio next week at $50 opening bid--so far no bids.

My AP is still good, but DH is a principal, so no leaving town for us right now. So, whoever was arguing that $10 per point is too high, how about $10 per night???

I would guess it is someone who had to cancel last minute, and was outside their banking window. Anything on short notice would be better than losing it completely!

I'm sure you're right--the points would expire.

Maybe I'll double check ebay listings just before our next trip--you never know

At $50 I was really tempted to pack up the kids and leave DH at home for the week

I wonder if it is a DISer who is bidding. Maybe I should get a cut of the bid if so--

You know when Ii saw your post I started dialing madly. I
I called everyone I knew in Fl as well as people I knew were going down this week. My DH thought I was crazy but I couldn't let this go without telling everyone on the off chance they could use it. My sister's in laws just couldn't grasp the concept and told me they were going to visit his mother instead. They just couldn't get their mind around the value of this auction. Anyway it went off at $300 thanks to you DVC'rs

That's a different auction. the $300 auction closed around 3 PM on Thursday. $500 is around what I think most studios go for on ebay. I don't know since I don't look there routinely.

You should start a new thread for this auction! Amazing - it's only 50.00 a night on the buy it now option! I'm guessing this person may have bought a resale with banked points that expire and came up with a clever way to use them up before they expire. Just my speculation of course.

He got a lot of free publicity yesterday. I am not going to be part of it today.
I am not sure he had a resale with points though since he has a week of OKW already booked. I don't even know if OKW is available for next week anymore.

It's possible he closed in early August with points expiring at the end of August and OKW was the only thing available to book. Just a thought....sorry if I struck a nerve. I thought it was a good idea and I might have tried it myself had I thought of it when I closed on my resale earlier this year with banked points that expired 6 weeks later. It just turned out that we were able to go and stay at OKW ourselves which was even better.

I would love it if folks over here helped me out unwittingly. Why are we so hesitant to do something like that these days? If you don't want to get involved - don't. I personally hope somebody who could benefit from the reservation saw Shan's post this morning and jumped on it. To the benefit of BOTH bidder AND seller.

It doesn't appear that the seller is gonna make any money out of this deal! If my daughter didn't just start Kindergaretn I'd jump on it for sure. Such a last mintue thing, thsi coudl only be legit. On the new listing I went back and read that it had to be relisted as the other winner backed out. I wish I knew soemone who coudl go last second! I'm racking my brain...............
