Wow, this certainly isn´t easy.

I´m trying to find accomodation in NYC for a family of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids, aged 2,5,10 and 12). We´ll be staying from May 25-28 (I believe that´s Memorial Day weekend) and we were hoping not to spend more than $250 a night and still stay somewhere central. :rolleyes1

Hopeless task???

Good luck with that. Please post if you are able to find something, though.

You can give these a try.

Doubletree Guest Suites-Times Square
Le Parker Meridien (Midtown West)
Gershwin
Renaissance New York
Embassy Suites Hotel

Have you tried checking at the Travel Inn on 42nd Street? We had a very comfortable stay here when hubby had a convention at the Javits Center. It was a GREAT location, just a short walk to Times Square / Restaurant Row, etc. Not the plushest of lodgings, but the rooms were very clean and well kept. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Here's a link to an internet special that they offer. It says it expires December 06, but I bet if you called them directly and asked about it, they might extend it.

I'm always dreaming about returning to NYC (we loved it so much!!) and am always checking prices. This one remains the best.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks everyone. I sent the Travel Inn Hotel a mail. Let´s see what they say. I also found something called www.bblodges.com. Looks good.

Actually the Sheraton on 7th Ave. may accomadate you for that rate. Memorial Day weekend is quiet in NYC and they often run specials for that holiday weekend. I have also have some very good luck using hotels.com

Good Luck!!!!

I can't speak for price, but I've stayed here in a 2BR suite before (a while ago) and it was very nice. They used to be apartments, so our suite had a full kitchen and dining room, living room, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. It says on Expedia that one bedroom has 2 queen beds, the other 1 queen bed. Honestly, I can't remember. Give them a call to see for sure. Nice location. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...ws-Eastgate_Tower-New_York_City_New_York.html

Just had another thought!!!!! In Weehawkin New Jersey the Radisson Hotel has the ferry right outside their door which takes you right across the Hudson River and gives you bus service that brings you to whatever part of town you want visit. Also the view of NYC from across the river is magnificent and has beautiful walking paths and new gardens.

Most likely you will be getting conjoining rooms, or a suite. Are you a Starwood member, or a frequent club member of any hotel chain? If so there are many Hitons and Sheratons that are superb! Good luck with your search and let us know how it goes!!

:scared: Gosh! Absolutely hopeless? I am sort of in the same situation - I was hoping to visit NYC this summer. I figured the bottom of the barrel Econolodge or Motel 6 type place would be at least $150 a night! Boy, what dream land am I living in? :confused3

I ran into the same problem-we were wanting to spend a couple of nights in NYC in mid-June and we're a family of 5. I was ballparking the rate at $250 also, but man! Couldn't find a thing! Thanks for the ideas in this thread-keep 'em comin'! :thumbsup2

I am subscribing to this thread because my dh and I would love to go to NY, but any trip without the kiddos is going to be a budget one for us right now!

I don't like the neighborhood the Gershwin is in. It's a bit creepy at night, and there is a homeless shelter and soup kitchen about a block away that attracts a less desirable crowd.

This reminded me of a time a while back when I was planning a trip for a large group to see the Red Sox play at Yankee Stadium - we were going to make a weekend of it, but the weekend happened to fall on Sept 11 and things were unbelievably expensive, even for NYC.

I posted this thread after I found a relatively inexpensive hotel just outside of Times Sq. You have to check out the Trip Advisor reports that the second poster on the thread linked. They're a riot!!

This is a VERY GOOD idea. My DH had a 4 year job with the PA NY/NJ and we rented a hi-rise on River Street in Hoboken, NJ. There is the BUS lines, NJ METRO and Academy that run all the time to the city, there is the PATH line, that runs all the time to the city and then lastly there is the FERRY that runs all the time to the city. IN FOUR YEARS, we never once drove into the city at all. We were there from 2000-2004. So, it was not all that long ago. NJ is always a great option to visiting NYC. NYC will be outrageously $$$$$$!!!!

GOOD LUCK, and you will have a BLAST. Look for show tickets NOW. Go online www.playbill.com and get your tickets now for any shows you may want to take the kiddos to!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks Ducklite for that information-that's exactly the kind of info we need! We've never been to NYC and DH is nervous about going (small town guy at heart).

Try the Hotel Edison. The mini-suite has a queen and double sleeper sofa. If you can add a roll-away and pack-n-play, you can make it work for a few dollars more than your budget.

You'd have to call to see if they will add the additional beds. I am almost certain that I was able to get a rollaway once when staying there with friends.

The location can't be beat. It's not a luxury place, but it's comfortable and clean.

Don't go for the Milford Plaza. The rooms are very small and it is not in the best area.

For once we agree on something. My in-laws stayed there, they have no problem with very "budget" type accomodations, and they said they wouldn't go back. The room they had wasn't very clean. At all.
