Would you want the government to create a fully funded BBC/RTE style radio service?

Every media outlet is "biased" if it says things that one doesn't agree with. 😉
Even when I agree with a thought it bothers me, I prefer populist info and let people do what they want with it.

Basically, I want journalists to be more like impartial judges: "We have this, this and this going on, if we go this way this will probably happen because blah blah blah & it we go this other way this may happen because of blah blah blah- off you go." Noone should be thinking for us, that ticks me off because I trust in the conclusion of a free thinking democratic majority, nothing else.

I want even less. "We have this, this, and this going on." End. That's the news. You take the news and apply it the way you need to and I take the news and apply it the way I need to. News is fact. "this will probably happen, or that will probably happen..." is not news. It is speculation and opinion and doesn't belong in the news.

Live in Detroit, listen to Damhnait Doyle most mornings on the way to the gym. Love her programming, actually a lot of the CBC’s programming tbh…so yeah, when I’m not listening to my Apple Music or podcasts, I’d absolutely take a little more CBC style radio here in the states.
That's cool!
I watch CBC shows (like ****t's Creek...) and CBC national news on occasion (or check their website/social media) but never listen to CBC radio.

"Mornings with Damhnait Doyle"'s well worth a listen. Alternative indie/folk...it's good stuff. Definitely a plus living in a border city like Detroit

I started at an NPR station. We were non-profit, funded by government grants and private donations. There programming to me is very much like BBC. And here in California, we also have Capitol Public Radio, which also is funded by government grants and private donations.
If the USA did start a radio service as my original post stated, how could you see it actually working if at all? Is our culture that different compared to Europe?

Like I said a year ago. I think NPR is very much like BBC. So we already have that radio service.

We're too far gone here for anything more than NPR. It's quite sad....we're lost as a nation and not likely to return to anything resembling what we had even eight years ago....for at least a generation, probably more. I'm rooting for Gen Z. The rest of us have lost the thread....

Our nation is not lost, it's just dealing with many things at once. It will get better, I have faith in our country and that's all I can say on that.

You're more optimistic than I am......at least if you're thinking things get better in the short term...as in 5-10 years. I hope you're right.
