Would you volunteer to test the H1N1 vaccine?

I got an email about volunteering to test the H1N1(aka swine flu) vaccine. In a way, I'd like to do it. I am hearing that the flu could hit before the vaccine is ready. Since I am a teacher, if it hits, I will be exposed. The other part of me is worried because I would be a guinea pig and I don't want to end up sick.

So, would you do it, or skip it?

Marsha

No, I would not volunteer. Even if it becomes widely available, I'm not sure if I will get it for myself or my kids at this point.

Yep. If my Dr or BIL who is a Dr said it was ok then yes. I get flu shots anyways.

Kae

Nope.
Not a big fan of "flu" shots.Have never received one and am not starting now.

Yes. The worst that can happen, in my opinion, is that I wouldn't achieve immunity. However immunity status would be determined at the end of the trial.

Since I'm so sensitive to even the most routine medications, I don't think the results from trying it out on me would be very useful to them..

Not if you offered me a million dollars. I don't get any vaccinations and will be staying away from anything they put out for H1N1. I let my immune system handle what I get and I have never had any issues I couldn't handle.

Yes, I would. I'd be at the front of the list (provided it's not a live virus vaccine). I don't have the immune system I used to. I can barely fight off a common cold, so the flu could be deadly for me.

Not a chance...I am not allowed to get a flu shot due to Guillain Barre Syndrome that I came down with four years ago. Even if I could, I wouldn't and I teach KDG!!!!

Probably not. I would rather, if I had a choice, wait til this vaccine has been around for about 10/15 years first.

I would. I actually signed up, but I have switched prescription meds in the last three months, so I don't qualify.

No, never. I don't do flu shots in general, and I certainly wouldn't try anything slapped together this hastily. There are lots of worse things that could happen to you beyond not getting immunity.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards not. I have only gotten the regular flu shot twice and both times ended up with the flu that season. I worry about what happened with the last swine flu vaccine.

They would only take healthy volunteers, anyway, and who knows what they consider unhealthy?

I completely agree!
