Would you use frequent flyer miles to fly to Orlando?

I have 2 free airline tickets due to my frequent flyer miles and I'm debating if I should use my miles for Orlando. It honestly doesn't cost that much to fly from Michigan. I'm thinking to save the miles for someplace further. If you had enough miles for 2 free tickets in the continental U.S. would you use the miles for Disney?

Welcome to the DIS, Lil Lil! I'm very glad that you found us and I hope you can visit often.

I'm going to move this to our community board for you. I imagine you will receive some great advice there.

My dad has a rule he more or less follows... unless it costs $250 or more per ticket, he'd rather just pay it out of pocket himself. If I had no where else I wanted to go in the US, I would use it, but I can think of more expensive places to fly to that would be really worth using :)

We've done it twice. Sent our family of 4 with frequent flier miles in 2001 and 2003. Our last trip (just a week ago) they wanted double the miles for going to Orlando, and it seems to be the case no matter what dates I put in, so we may never do it again. But, it also cost me almost $400/person to fly there too.

It's the only way we fly! I know that I can probably find a better use for the FF miles. However, we only go on one big vacation a year and it is to Disney. We usually add some days and go to the beach too. But it's just one of the ways we are able to afford to go every year. Little to no travel expenses. otherwise if we added in $200-$250 per ticket x 4 we end up driving 18+hours and we don't enjoy that!

I have the same rule: If it is under $250, I pay. Altho, I tried to break the rule and use my FF miles this past February for Disneyland, this coming April for Phoenix, and this coming August or October or November for Disneyworld, all from Michigan, but the airlines want AT LEAST 35,000 up to 60,000 miles to fly during the times I want to go. I also put in random dates and had the same problem. I have 92,000 miles on one airling, and I can't get two tickets to the World!!! This seems to be a recent problem as I have used FF miles for tickets many times before.

So, I have stopped using my Visa for that builds miles on that airline, and am now using my Disney Visa. I think that will pay off better in the end. I am so disgusted with the FF mile program.

I know some people prefer to buy the economy ticket and then use their miles to upgrade to business/first class. Personally, this trip we decided to use our miles. That way we save money on airline tickets and we get to use up our miles (we haven't really figured out where else to go). So instead of spending over $400 on 2 tickets from Newark, we paid a total of $20!

You bet I do...Since I only fly once a year to Orlando or Tampa, I use my miles.

Yes, I'd use the ff miles to go to Orlando...however it's nearly impossible to find flights that I can use them on.

For us, we've found that it's much easier to use FF miles to go almost anywhere else other than Orlando.

I've been racking up the FF miles to/from Orlando/Boston so I can get a free flight to LA. So, no I won't use my miles for a flight to Orlando and I can't upgrade (since most are all coach anyway).
