Would you try this if you couldn't get an ADR or walk-in at the Kona Cafe for dinner?

If for whatever reason you tried to get an ADR at the Kona Cafe for dinner and nothing was available and you found out they were to full to go as a walk-in, would you want to go to the Kona Island Sushi Bar since you can order off the Kona Cafe menu over there and because you don't need ADR's when going there. However since you would not actually be eating at the Kona Cafe would you not want to do that, because it wouldn't feel the same as being in their actual location.

I've already made that suggestion on another thread. The OP wanted to try to go to 'Ohana without an ADR, and I suggested that they could try for Kona if 'Ohana was not available as a walk-up at 5pm. And if Kona wasn't available, I told them they could grab a seat in the sushi bar area when it opens and order anything from the Kona dinner menu.

Personally, I don't think Kona Cafe is "all that" when it comes to being in the restaurant. It has a coffee shop feel to me. I've eaten at both Kona Cafe and the sushi bar, and it made no difference to me whatsoever in terms of ambiance.

That is a great idea!

I thought the best part of Kona was the food and the service. If you can get the food at the Sushi bar, that is what I would do.

If you're there for the food, what does it matter where you eat it? Not that Kona is that big on atmosphere anyway.

You might as well ask why anyone would want to eat from a restaurant's menu in the restaurant's lounge. I do that often. I do it because you don't need to make a reservation six months ahead of time, and when eating alone or just two adults it's sometimes more fun to have the bartenders to chat with.

I have to agree, Kona wasn't that great on atmosphere. Food good, but not worth it if you want to go for atmosphere... very laid back, not anything fancy at all. I'd say go for the sushi place!

I agree in this situation. I don't think anybody chooses Kona Cafe for the atmosphere. It's pretty standard and unassuming. Sitting at the sushi bar seems like a perfect solution when the regular dining room is full.

Part of the enjoyment of some restaurants is the ambiance. California Grill, for instance. Kona does not fall into that category.

we did this on our last trip -same menu, and one of the kids ate sushi from the bar,so it was perfect! I was little surprised by the cost ( I shouldn't have been, this is disney;)) but it was a nice option to sit and eat when the;)re no tables left inside.
