I have flights on hold w/United out of Chicago...our departing flight leaves REALLY late, arriving at MCO at 1 a.m., but our return flight leaves lates as well, 7 ish giving us a 1/2 day to do whatever. I am "patiently" :rolleyes1 waiting for SW to open past 8/3 ( who isn't?) but am wondering if I will do any better $$$$ wise...seems like there aren't many Chicago/Midway dings lately, but historically. mid to late August as yeilded some deals. The MAIN thing I am leaning toward SW for is the no penalty perk, and credit if lfight goes down...UAL charges $100 for any change...we are traveling during hurricane season, have kids so ANYTHING can come up...WWYD? :confused3 Right now, I am thinking it is pretty close to SW releaseing the dates...can't be much more than a week out..well it can, but NOOOOOOOOO! So trying to hold out...

SW has raised airfares to cover the costs of fuel. You can always roll the dice but lets face it 100 each way for airfare is a fair price for a trip of that length.

I agree with Disguy, prices aren't getting much lower then that, especially if the travel times work out for your situtation. Fuel prices are only going higher this summer, so lock in at a low rate would be my suggestion...

I'd wait for SW, but I'm a HUGE SW fan. I love the flexibility and cancelability. Last fall I booked SONG because it was the same price as SW and the flight time was better and they have those little TV"S in every seat. I was so excited! We boarded into our assigned seats and waited at the gate for 75 minutes for a generator to be available to start the engines. NEVER AGAIN.

However, usually the SW schedule doesn't change that much. Check flight times of flights available now (or in August) and see if they have flight times you like better.

BTW - When are you going? Last year, flight past 8/5 opened in March 17th

Quite frankly, I'd go for a decent fare on just about any airline rather than fly SWA. It's worth it if only for the assigned seats.
