Would you rent a car for a day to go to Unversal?

For some reason I was originally under the assumption that the Mears Shuttle was $70 roundtrip... have no idea where I got that from. But now it may be $14 roundtrip per person ??? This is based on the PDF file on their website. If it's only $14 RT we'll do that but if it's $14 Each Way we might as well rent a car. What have others done?

I was having trouble with the Mears site so I called them. It is $14 r/t for each person. The Mears rep. said that could change by a dollar or two depending on which WDW resort they are picking you up and dropping you off at.

Awesome. You wouldn't happen to know if you have to reserve them before the trip or is it something you can do at the concierge desk? I don't go until May but I wanted to know ahead of time if we needed to rent a car or not. I'd rather do a shuttle rather than go through the trouble of having to return the car either that night or early the next morning (when we're trying to get to a theme park!) and paying $9 to park there. I guess I can just call the week before and ask them about reservations?

Yes, you do have to reserve and pay for the transportation ahead of time but you only need to give them 24 hours notice when you want to be picked up. I was told that the buses run about every 20-30 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.

I rented a convertible for the day, went to Universal and took a nice ride that night before dropping off the car that evening. Pick up and drop off at the Dolphin. Had a blast, just do it! :cool1:

Unless they have changed, we used Mears for a side trip to Sea World, a few years ago. We were staying at ASMu. I used the Mears phone, in the lobby. I called the day before we wanted to go to SW. They gave me a list of pickup times. I told them what time we would like to be picked up. We waited outside the lobby for the bus. I can't remember if we paid when we boarded the bus or when we got off at SW, but we didn't need a credit card, we paid with cash. When we were ready to come back to WDW, we called an hour before we wanted to be picked up. There's an area, in the parking lot, where you wait for the bus (or towncars, if you're using them). We waited, maybe 15-20 minutes for the bus to arrive.

I would definitely use them again, if it's just the two of us. More than that, I would use a towncar service.

We used Mears in 2002 for 3 of us (ds was 2.5) and it cost $30. (maybe they didn't charge for him????) But now we're a family of 4 ... I might opt for the towncar svc. Is it also through Mears?? Where do I find out more info'n??? TIA

Almost every towncar website will have the prices for this.
