would you pay $150 more to switch from Silver Lake to HiltonVacationClub?

I reserved a 2 bedroom at Silver Lake through AFVC over a month ago. I really wanted HVC because our plans for the week are to visit US/IOA and SeaWorld plus I have heard such raves for HVC and just so-so for Silver Lake. When I saw our exact dates for SL though, I jumped at it because my sister needed to buy her airfare and it was a "sure thing". Today our dates became available for HVC (a 2 bedroom) through AFVC. Only thing is, it will cost $150 to switch. HVC is closer and nicer (at least I've read it's nicer) but is it worth the extra $150? I need to know by tomorrow morning so I can let AFVC know.

I would really appreciate some knowledge and guidance from you kind folks. Thanks in advance :)

I haven't stayed at Silver Lake yet - but I have stayed at HGVC and yes it is probably worth it.

but you have to do what is best for you.

I would go with what you have - you can always try for HGVC next time.

Thanks for the reply Spicey :)

For future trips we would like to be closer to Disney but this trip will be to focus on US and Sea World so it seems like the perfect time. Looking at the pictures, I think it will be worth the $150 to switch ( that $150 is the difference for the entire stay of 7 nights not per night), just wanted some feedback to read to DH ;). I called my sister and asked her if she and her husband would like more space and they think it is worth it. Looks like I am going to switch ressies tomorrow morning.....

Still interested in what any of you have to add. I've seen neither resort so I appreciate replies. Thanks!

According to the T.U.G. site, HGCV has a rating of 9.22 out of a possible 10, and is rates #9 on the 2003 list of Top 10 timeshare resorts for Florida. Silver Lake rates an 8.29 on the same scale.

Current TUG Top Resorts by Areas (Florida)
updated 06/08/03

1. Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Lake Buena Vista
2. The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Lake Buena Vista
3. Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Buena Vista
4. South Seas Club At SSP, Captiva Island
5. Hyatt Sunset Harbor, Key West
6. Tortuga Beach Club, Sanibel Island
7. Marriott’s Cypress Harbour, Orlando
8. Marriott’s Grand Vista, Orlando
9. HGV Club at Orlando, Orlando
10. Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, Vero Beach

Having stayed at #'s 1,2,3, & 7, and toured #8 I would say that you should anticipate a pleasant stay at a high quality resort !
If I had to make the same choice, I would spend the extra $150 and never look back.

Hi - I too think you would be very happy at HGVC. But I have a question I hope someone could answer? Can you please tell me who AFVC is when you said you booked it through them?

Thanks so much!
Heather C

That is awesome!!! I just wish more people in the armed forces knew about it to take advantage!!!

Thanks!

Thanks Scott for the HGVC info :), it's good to hear! My DH is happy about the switch now and no looking back. We still got a great rate for the week, can't wait to see the resort. I found out about AFVC on these boards not quite a year ago, after nearly 10 years in the service. So much helpful info on these boards. This will be our first time using the AFVC service and we don't expect to be dissapointed. Thanks again :)

To strawberryblonde, you are most welcome :) .

I just did a quick price search on the HGVC - an owner on TUG advertised his 1 bedroom week for $675, and hotelkingdom showed availability in september at $150/night for the 2 bedroom.
I suspect you probably got it for less than that.

There is one negative to this, that I have found. It will spoil you rotten, making it really hard to go back to regular hotel rooms, no matter how nice they are. As my darling daughter said when walking into her last hotel room - "where's the rest of it ?!?"

I have stayed at both and in fact, are staying at Hilton again in October. They are both nice but Hilton IS nicer. If you are getting a bigger unit as well then it is really worth it.
