Would you like to see a DVC Resort on a tropical island?

Just about anywhere in the Carribbean would be nice, as long as the resort is somewhat secluded from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the island. I like a quiet tropical vacation.

The Caymans are very expensive. I would vote for the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas or St. John). That would be wonderful!

Well it's not the Carribean, but I vote for Bermuda.

Aruba would get my vote. It hardly ever rains there. It is out of the Hurricane belt, so anyone looking to go in the late summer and autumn would not be taking a big chance on being stormed out. It's a wonderful place to relax or play. The food is expensive, but no more so than at Disney restaurants. And there are casinos there too.

I think that a Caribbean DVC resort would be AWESOME. I would buy into it in a second!

Love the idea about Bermuda and Aruba sounds good too. But I'd vote for St Bart's.

I would love to hear why this is such a bad idea from the other 20 individuals
who voted no. I think this is a great idea and was wondering if I am living
in fantasy land.

I'm a no as IMHO it is a non starter, it's a nice enough fantasy but it is fantasy.

There are hundreds of decent time share resorts in most of these places. To be worthwhile for Disney there has to be a big enough profit margin in it for Disney, with so much competition it is unlikely to have enough margin for them to get involved in what, basically, would be a new venture for them. Disney is a profitable organisation but a good sized development would be 10s if not 100s of millions of $s. Both Vero and HH had very slow sales and IF any more DVC resorts are to be built I would think DLC is the ONLY non WDW site that is a possibility.

My personal reasons for voting no ( other than it is just not going to happen) is that IMHO more of those owners ( DVC Carribean) are going to want to go to WDW than people are going to want to go to the Carribean whose home resorts are at WDW. Therefore there is going to be more difficulty in trying to get less than 7 month in advance bookings. Both HH and Vero can be used as "add on" stays to a WDW holiday, a Tropical Island resort would by definition be a seperate destination there is no connection with Disney and IMHO it would be a waste of resourses. There are plenty of opportunity to swap a DVC resort for one of the many fabulous non disney resorts for those that wish to do so.

I don't see ANY advantages to the idea and plenty of disadvantages, sorry to burst your bubble.

Casbill didn't say Disney could get into financial problems,he said DVC- and he's right. DVC is a seperate company responsible for turning a profit. Why haven't HH or VB sold out ? IMO it's because it doesn't feel like Disney. DVC on an island would feel the same way. Another concern might be dealing with a foreign government where the rules could change at any time. The price of the $$ against foreign $$ could look great at the 11 month window but be terrible at the time of your trip. What about the price of airfare ? It has to be higher then flying into Orlando. Also have to deal with customs,passports,id,etc... What about tropical storms that could wash away everything.
As long as it wouldn't cost me $$$ if the resort failed then I don't care if they build one. Personally I think there are more then enough island resorts out there to enjoy right now. I don't see a need for DVC to take a chance.

I would like to see a DVC at Disney's "Castaway" Island also. Used DVC points for a Disney Cruise and loved that island the best. It was so beautiful, peaceful and relaxing.

I would love to see Disney open a resort on their own island, or maybe somewhere in the eastern Caribbean. I hated my recent trip to the Bahamas (Nassau/Paradise Island) and I've heard other people with the same complaints - lack of quality, lack of service, etc. If Disney had an island resort it would most likely be better run. As long as its warm and the beach is fantastic I'm there!
