Would you like to see 1 and 2-br Villas with Kitchenettes???

When it's the four of us (wife, self, & two kids), we like a 2BR with a full kitchen. When it's just my wife and I, we like a 1BR with a full kitchen.

Westin has an interesting 2BR lock-off layout at some of their timeshare resorts. One side of the lock-off is a 1BR with a full kitchen (similar to DVC), but the other side is a smaller 1BR instead of a studio. The smaller 1BR has a kitchenette instead of a kitchen, a small living room, a simpler bathroom, and no washer/dryer.

When exchanging into a Westin 1BR, you need to pay attention as to whether it's a real 1BR or a glorified studio.

Please don't even suggest getting rid of the full kitchens! We have always cooked big breakfasts in while on vacation so the dining plan does not change that. Also, with children, and most especially babies, a full kitchen is so necessary. Two years ago when DD was only 7 months old, I felt like the only reason we could go was because we had the full kitchen. We ate in a lot on that trip and I would not have enjoyed my stay if I had to wash all those bottles by hand for a week and a half!

Another KEEP THE KITCHEN here, dp or not I love to cook and the full size fridg is a must for my wine, beer, coolers, rum, vodka etc :rotfl2:

Kitchens at DVC will be around long after the DDP is dead and gone, I hope.

To me, it's sheer lunacy even to suggest getting rid of the kitchens. If you don't want to use it, don't....but don't ruin vacations for the rest of us!!!

I think for many members the luxury of the kitchen is breakfast.

With today's schedules of work, school etc. very few of us get to eat a traditional big breakfast anymore. We enjoy that very much at DVC and it's our time we take together to plan our day.

Now of course that breakfast might be at 11am but hey, its vacation. :lmao:

And if you do the DDP you will want that big frigerator to put your leftovers in and the desserts.

Nothing like eggs, bacon and key lime pie for breafast. Yummy :thumbsup2

Don't take away the kitchen! It wouldn't be a "home" then!
I was going to say that, but you beat me to it! It's part of what makes me feel like I'm living at WDW. We only do simple meals but they require more than just a microwave and toaster. And I love the Fiestaware!

No....No....No!!!

I made a full Thanksgiving dinner for our Florida family in June at VWL since they could not come to us last November...could not possibly have done that with a studio kitchen.

I also could not bake my daughter's beloved brownies in a microwave (you know, the ones that the great smell drove everyone absolutely nuts on our hall at VWL in June...)

Besides, having an AP, I get the DDE and we can then pick and choose with eating out versus eating in. There are sometimes that we just like to curl up at night and stay in, just like we do when we are at the family beach house.

I guess it is all in the way you are accustomed to vacationing :artist:

I LOVE my DVC kitchens! I can probably count the times I have used the stove top on one hand, but I want it there! And I have to run the dishwasher frequently for my wine glasses, mugs and snack plates.

When I don't care about the kitchen I can stay in a studio or a couple of Value rooms with a Crock Pot :rotfl2:

Maybe not all of the kitchens. They could make some units with mini-kitchens for fewer points. A refrigerator bigger than the studio refrigerator, but smaller than the 1 bedroom. We REALLY used the refrigerator at the Grand Villa, but I don't think we'll use it much on our upcoming trip to VWL. It will be just my husband and me in a 1BR. Real plates, but service for 4. Oven - I don't know? Do we need a regular sized oven? Definitely not. Dishwasher yes. But it doesn't have to be a large one. Never give up the tub.

:thumbsup2 Definetly keep the full kitchens!!! :thumbsup2

We fill the fridge with water bottles, milk, juice boxes, beer, coolers plus breakfast foods and snacks. No way could we do with a smaller fridge and that is on the DDP!! When off of the DDP we cram it with food. :) We do occasionally use the stovetop and microwave. It wouldn't be home without a kitchen!

Keep the kitchen! OMG, it is one of the best selling points for us. We use the DDP, love the DDP, dh LIVES for the DDP, and we still use our kitchen A LOT. We don't necessarily cook, per se (don't think I've ever turned the oven on, for example), but we fill that fridge and need all of that counter space for...well, ok, for making Margaritas...
But we use it!

I would have to collectively concur with the kitchen keepers.

Just dicussed this very menu last night-looking forward to that first breakfast in just 19 days.

Now this one seems to not need a poll to figure out the results. Seems most here want the kitchen to stay.

ditto...

But then we put 3 people in a 2 bedroom.

We do too!! We may even put 2 people in one next week if my friend's sister and BIL bail on us. Love that luxury!!!

No, leave it alone. Even if I dont' use them the fridge and stove accent make it look more like home! ;) Seriuosly I still cook breakfast when I am on the plan, and doubt I will use the plan every single time I visit. In addition just like every other plan Disney ever has, nothing lasts forever, change is inevitable and the plan will not exist forever.
