at a Hooters? We have one opening near where we live. I can't believe how many people are so against it. :confused3 They act like a topless joint is opening.

Just so you know - my daughter is going to be a hostess there. I have no problem with it. The hostess wear Kahki pants or shorts their choice, but have to comform to the rest of Hooters rules. They're very strict with the girls do's and don'ts.

To me its no different than working where i work, an auto parts store. you still have men oggle you no matter what. As long as you're ok with it and she's ok with it, it's a good experience in learning work ethic.

Seriously.

I would let her in a heartbeat. I almost worked there myself 6 or 7 years ago (before I was over the hill :teeth: )

I "secret shop" for them and have to answer questions on everyone I encounter, every worker there has standards they have to adhere to in their dress. It is a sports bar/restaurant and it is actually a very family friendly environment. My 5 year old has been with me on EVERY secret shopping assignment I have had with them, and it has never been inappropriate for him to be there.

would never bat an eye, its easier to get signed at most modeling agencies than to become a hooters girl. we hada daughter that was recruited heavily as one.

I don't think I could not allow my 16-year or older DD to work at Hooters, but I know for darn sure I would not encourage it. I do not find :guilty: "family friendly" ("more than a mouthful" ... give me a break!) and it's not any place I would want my DD working ... at least until they put the boy bartenders into hot pants too.

Their "hot pants" have to cover their entire rear end, and under those they are wearing un-sheer nylons. :confused3 A lifeguard reveals a heck of a lot more.

i agree with aidens mom, there are many places where you will see more skin than at a hooters. including wdw in the rain. or at any wdw pool, any hotel pool, any place you see cheerleaders... plus,, all hooters do have security that watches out for the girls, i have seen guys removed, for making advances, that are ignoired at say,, waffle house.

Yep the shorts/nylons are incredibly tacky.

Thankfully my DD would never consider working at a Hooters.

No, I would be very uncomfortable with that and would not allow a teenage dd to work there.

I certainly wouldn't encourage it, but once they are supporting themselves a parent doesn't have a say.

I would not let her do it if she were still living under my roof.

OK, I just have to ask, those who would not let their daughters work there, have you ever been there?

You see more t&a at the local mall than at Hooters. I wouldn't have a problem with it like frog said one of our older dd's was asked to be a shift manager at Hooters.

Hi Aidensmom! I see you are in Tampa, I am in St. Pete (and work in Tampa) :wave2:

I too secretly wished to work at Hooters...it was really hard to get a job there when I lived in Tallahassee...

So, another poster who lives in the founding place of Hooters! :thumbsup2 Sorry you have to deal with our traffic every day for work.

i have been to hooters.. sevearl times before dw came along, back when they were a fairly new concept.. and honestly, according to our dd that was recruited, all the employees have to be at least 18, and in most areas 21. a lot of them have bars in them, and they are required to be of legal age to work there. its not like say sonic,, where girls can work at 16, and are encouraged to wear shorts and roller skates in the summer.

A lifeguard has a legitimate reason to.

Honestly, I don't have any problem with what they actually wear, it's the overall message the whole place presents that bothers me. So, I guess the answer to the original question is that I would really hope no daughter of mine would want to work there. I just wouldn't particularly care for the idea of her working for a company that is in the business of using female sex appeal to sell hotwings. And, personally, the term "Hooters Girl" just makes me want to gag. They can slap that stupid owl on everything in that restaurant. I don't think there's really any doubt as to what exactly "hooters" refers to. Now, is there? If she really wanted to work there, she would certainly be free to do so as soon as she was on her own.

Oh, and yes, I've been there - a few times in college. I also once attended a Star Trek convention. Doesn't mean I'm proud of it. :rotfl:

Hmmm . . . if I had a daughter, would I approve of her working in a restaurant whose name is slang for women's breasts. Nope. Sure they have employee standards and try to present a "family" atmosphere, but when it comes right down to it, the place is projecting a certain image that I hope my daughter would not want to buy into.

I would also be concered about how the job will look on a resume 5 or 10 years later.
