Would you let your almost 8 yr old go on Stitch alone?

My son LOVES the Stitch ride and it repulses me....you know, chili burp etc. Well, we are going this weekend and he wants to go on it again....I am not looking forward to it! I got to thinking...maybe he could do it himself????????? I am usually one of those over protective mom's (he usually stills comes in the lady's room with me!)....but if I go into the pre show with him and then meet him in the gift shop...would that be good?

Ya know...not even sure why I am asking.....most likely I will get there and decide to go on it because I WILL BE IN DISNEY!!

Just wanted some friendly opinions! He is at the age where you try to give them a little bit of room owever, they do not know you are always watching! ;)

Thanks!

Kim

No. I personally think 8 is too young for him to go on alone on a ride where you can't see him at all times.

IMHO, you answered your own question when you said you still take him into the ladies room with you. ;) I'd wait a few more years until I'd let him go alone. Maybe you can make a compromise...you go on Stitch for him, and he goes on something you really like?

Good luck in making your decision. :)

Personally I'd do it, since he's been on it before. The night-vision cameras in that attraction cover every square inch, from what I understand; I rode it once as Alien Encounter and apparently someone left the shoulder harness and stood and instantly the lights came up. Someone outside asked a CM how they knew and they said the security cameras could see everyone in the dark very clearly. I'd just make very sure I knew the ride only had one exit. But every child and parent is different, so by all means if you're not comfortable with it, just don't do it!

LOL! I already told him...YOU go on SLASH with me and I will AGAIN go on Stitch with you!!

If it weren't for that repulsive smell...I would have no problems. It is just gross..but of course that is why my little BOY loves it!!! :rotfl2: Why oh why do I not have a sweet little princess that just wants to meet Cinderella??? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

You could walk with him into the worst part, have him sit down, and you leave before the "show" starts. That way, he would be in the last part of the attraction and you could quickly exit. I'm pretty sure the CM's will let you do that.

That was what I was thinking....like any attraction there is the "last minute escape". Thought if I got him settled, then I could leave and meet him in the exit area..........

as long as mine had been there before, loved it--yes, I'd let mine go in alone.
You'll be in the same building, and it's safer than letting him walk to school, actually -- just my opinion.

Sadly, a VERY good point!!!! :thumbsup2 Funny how we think. I would NEVER EVER consider letting him walk to school. I would feel more comfortable knowing he was safe (because I watched him get in place) on a WDW ride than I would having him walk to school....NO WAY!!!! I would be COMPLETELY out of control of that situation.

Thanks again! You are the best.................

part of the issue is the need to find ways to help them be autonomous...while recognizing that there isn't automatic safety in the world.

we live in a little town where people still don't lock their doors, so we're very lucky.

All good points, but I still wouldn't be able to allow my 8 year old to go alone.

If he's done it before, and the CM is willing to let you take him in, get seated and secured-I'd say yes.

Different 8 year olds act quiet differently. Without knowing your son, it is hard to say. Some eight years would no be able to handle this, but your tone implies that like you're fairly certain yours would be fine. In a general sense, I would think this would be fine with a relatively responsible 8 year old. As long as the CM's allow it.
I'd also make a plan for a specific place to meet him, and a plan for what to do in case he can't find you. But I'd do this with any child at WDW.

LOL, Kim!!! :rotfl2:

When will you be there? We plan on being in that area, possible riding it Monday evening. If you are around he can come on with us. :)

8 is young to be on a ride alone. He would probably be fine, but it's worth some Chili Burp smell to be sure. He's only young once, and soon you'll miss those times he wanted you there.

AHHHHHHHHH Katie!! You are missing me by a night! What day do you get to Pop? MAybe we can hook up for a bit! We leave Mon afternoon to come home.

I know I will end up going on Stitch with him....I just really do not enjoy it. Good thing it only lasts a couple of minutes!!!

Oh, so close!

We are driving, leaving Saturday at 10:00 am. So if things go smoothly we should be there by 10:00am on Sunday. We plan to just hang by the pool for the day there before heading out to dinner, so we will be around. Definitely look for us. My Mom and niece will be there too. :goodvibes
Monday we will be at the food court bright and early for breakfast before doing EE at AK.

Hmm.. well only you know your child. I think maybe if you go into the building and wait for him not a big deal, I couldnt get the nerve up to ride RRRC and she wanted to so I waited at the gift shop where the ride lets ppl off, she ended up running and getting back in line again..Now I wouldnt send him over to Stitch while you rode something else I mean I know its WDW but I have heard a few horror stories and well you never know now a days..

In reference to the night vision cameras when Alien Encounter first came out (the same ride as Stitch more or less) I witnessed a child get out of the harness and run out of the ride while their grandmother was helpless to go after them, being restrained for the remainder of the ride. Nothing happened, the ride wasn't stopped.

I would if you wait in line with him and then wait at the exit. It's not like he can fall out and get hurt! I'd tell him to be a little slow coming out so he isn't in the rush of people.

I have an 8 yr old boy also and next week will probably be doing this on star tours- after about 4x I need a break! but he would go on it forever. He just turned 8.

I think we may share the same child!! :rotfl2: He would ride Star Tours ALL DAY if I let him!!! This was suppose to be a girls only weekend for me but girlfriend had to cancel....SOOO my little guy lucks out! That being said, I had planned on only going to Epcot but now that ds is going I have added AK and MK...told him NO MGM this time as Star Tours is the ONLY thing he like there right now other than Fantasmic! :confused3 SOOOOO....he said "Can we go on Body Wars"?? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I said SURE....he would never try it before and I have not been on it in years...i would glady go on it!

I am actually really looking forward to this time with him...he is saying he is going to try a whole bunch of rides that he never has been on.....Splash, BTM, SM etc....I am hoping he does go on these because they are my FAVORITES!!!

Katie...I am not going to be around much on Sunday....going to Epcot for the day. Maybe I will see you in the a.m. in the food court! I am always up early getting coffee although aj may still be sleeping while i escape quickly to get my much needed caffeine!
