Would you have served food? (insp from the birthday party thread)

If it was a child's party from 2pm-4pm I would probably do chips, cake, ice cream. If it was a party(child or adult) that went over a mealtime, then I'd do a meal...probably something simple for children such as sandwiches and those little "pigs in a blanket" hot dogs and such. I would feel funny about having people at my house during a mealtime and not serving a meal.

I have learned not to expect anything that isn't written on the invitation. We went to a birthday party from 11-1, and all they had were chips, m&m's, and cake. Ahem.... Most of the civilized world eats lunch sometime around there, so now the kids are full of cake, chips, and candy, and certainly aren't interested in eating any lunch.:cake: :sad2:

DS is having his 11th birthday next Sunday at our local Family Fun Center (arcade, minigolf, go karts..) at 1pm. I did put "Luncheon served" on the invitations, because I wanted parents to know that we will be feeding the kids. I always provide food, but I also specifically list it on the invites. Most parties my kids attend are cake/ice cream types with some chips or snacks perhaps. I wouldn't expect food to be served unless it was noted on the invitation.

We used to have a complete lunch at DD's parties, but after seeing how much food is always wasted no matter what the menu or how small the portion, we now have her parties from 1-3 and only serve cake & ice cream (which a lot of is still wasted). The kids are so busy with the activities that I've never heard any requests for a snack.

Side note - The kids in our area do not care for homemade cake. It made me sick to throw so much of their pieces away. I now make the fancy cake homemade for our family (and as the centerpiece) but I have another regular cake made from a mix that I serve to the kids.
