Would you go??

Today my DH's work asked him to attend a conference in Orlando...next week!!
The hotel and his flight would be covered but because he is late registering the hotel is already full.
He called me today while I was at work and said we should all go!!! I am giving serious consideration to planning a trip in less than a week.

Is that possible?

My thought was to book at Best Western at the Disney Springs area as his work will cover it. It would only be myself and the three boys at the park so that would be tricky in terms of the rides we would go on.

If i buy the park tickets on the Disney site where would I pick them up? I know the Fastpasses would be slim pickings but there were some restaurants with availability.

What it will come down to though is when we ask the boys tomorrow if they are willing to miss their Spring Concert and school Fun Fair. They very well may say no which will make me sad but I want them to want to go.

In September when we were there (not my profile pic, that is an old one) my youngest fell in the Orlando airport and broke his arm...it would feel nice to go back and kind of have a do over as it changed our whole trip.

What else would you worry about with less than a week to plan? I know it will be busy (looks like attendance is about a 7) and hot (we have been 3 times in September and it was hot).

Am I crazy for even considering it?? How many times have I daydreamed at work that I could just hop a plane and head to Disney and that could very well come true!

Thanks for letting me ramble. Let me know what you think and please if you have any advice I would love to hear it.

Cheers.

I would go in a heartbeat. You can make day of fp's pretty easily. We change ours all the time when we're there. Don't worry about the planning.

That being said....if your boys say no because of their spring concert/funfair, I totally get, not going. I wouldn't pull them out of school if they didn't want to go. Good luck!

I would go, too. Its amazing how many WDW rides you can do at rope drop . . . target the most popular, headliners. Great quick service food in most of the parks that is just as tasty & less $ than most table service. I think I stayed at that BW more than 10 yrs ago and they had a basic shuttle to WDW. It was fine (not great & not terribly clean but OK for the price) but do double check the posted pick up and drop off time.

Do you have to miss the fair? Could you and the boys take a flight on a different day and meet up with your husband? I know it is hard to travel alone with 3 kids but it might be worth it if it means you can fit in one of the two things they might miss. Just a thought. My hubbys work occasionally sends him to Orange County California and we have tagged along and headed off to Disneyland and Legoland. I always feel kind of bad for my husband tho but I get over it LOL!

I'm not a fan of flying last minute - if you're talking about a last minute road trip to the Falls, Montreal or even Chicago I'd probably do it.

But are you crazy for considering it? No, definitely not.

You could get your tickets from Undercover Tourist and have them E delivered to you. I've never done this but it is an option that is available. Eat all your meals in the park counter service and do SDFP. You'll have a great time.

I would absolutely do it. If the kids are game then go for it. You may not be aware that there is a big storm heading for the Orlando area over the next week. Something to look into.

If you purchase tickets through Disney on your MDE account they are there immediately following purchase and you can then set up FP+.

Hotel wise, if it's in the budget then go for the Buena Vista Palace or the Hilton. Both are directly across the street from DS. The BVP pool is under construction so the rates are pretty low right now.

I would have booked the moment dh asked for us to come! But my kids would ditch most anything to go to wdw! My son even missed a last minute hockey tourney when we joined dh last spring at his convention. I thought he would get mad because he lives and breathes hockey but he didn't even blink an eye! So you may be surprised by your kids reactions. I've done Disney twice with just the kids and it was no problem. Enjoy!

If the kids were up to going and missing out on their planned school activity and as long as you can get reasonably priced flights, I'd go!

Being a member of Planners Anonymous, the one point I do not commit to till down at Disney is how many days we do at what parks. We may have park dinner reservations committing us to a park for a hard to get reservation, but we do not buy tickets till a day or two before from the front desk and then decide what, when (seeing the weather forecast) and then plan FP's.

This is actually where it sucks that they no longer have the no-expire passes. Because in my mind, having those makes "going on a whim" much easier.

Thanks everyone!! My two oldest boys said yes!! It was my oldest that I was concerned about but he was very much wanting to go. I won't tell my youngest until maybe the day before. I booked the hotel, DH is working on flights. I still don't believe it. Thank you for all your words of advice and encouragement. I appreciate it.

AWESOME! Have a blast...

I'm still trying to understand the question.:confused3
Was a spring concert even a comparison to days at Disney. Not in my house.:rotfl2:
Sometimes if you know the parks, going freebird is the best solution. As far as the rides, if the oldest is old enough to ride solo, there should be no issue with rides. You ride with the youngest and the other 2 ride together.
Enjoy as the rest of us wait for our trips to come. I can speak for most how jealous we are to have the problem you just had. Have a blast.

Yup, my oldest loves school or rather the social aspect. He has panicked when we took him out in September feeling he would miss to much.
This will be it for a least three or more years. I am still in shock that my DH is the driving force behind this...he tolerates Disney but I LOVE IT!!

Great advice, thank you. The other hotels were not available for a family of five but I looked at them after you mentioned them. Both look great. I had heard about the storm so hopefully it won't be awful. Even if it is we will make the most of it. Thanks for your help.

Thats great to hear for your kids. Good for them. We have taken ours out in sept and missed class pictures 3 years in a row. Bad timing every year. They change it up not always the same week. My girls response, they would rather their pictures with the characters. Ok by me. LOL

With a week to get ready you'll be fine. Don't ask me about our booked on Friday, leave on Saturday, week at WDW. A week of March blizzards makes you do crazy things. Have a great trip!

What do you mean, no longer have no-expire passes? I just bought some through air miles for January 2018! Ack!

I meant the no expiration option (they discontinued this in 2013). For example, I have no-expire passes that I bought in 2012, and I have 2 visits remaining that I can use.

Your passes are "base" tickets, and they are still good for 2018, but once used, you have 14 days to use the remainder of your visits.

My apologies if I caused any unnecessary panic on your end.
