Anyway, OP I just realized that you said you know she's there because she has a very distinctive car. Can I assume that you haven't seen her leave in the wee hours of the morning then? Who knows maybe he has an arrangement with her family music lessons in return for use of her car?

harsh? how about the insinuation that these people are committing some kind of lewd affair in that house. the OP is peeking out of her blinds onto someone else's property, speculating about something she knows nothing about and spreading it around. do you think for one minute if she thinks its ok to put it on here for 60,000 people to read that she is not talking about it over the phone and the back fence?

Our neighbor is a musician and works out of his home. For the last year he's had a home schooled female teen student who spends a lot of time at his house...a lot of time.

OP here. I actually haven't mentioned it to a soul (in real life). My husband, who was out of town at the time, heard about it from another neighbor and mentioned it to me. Before he brought it up, I hadn't even mentioned it to him. But gossipy neighbors are a huge part of why you don't want to behave like that. Some neighbors will see things and keep it to themselves and others will tell everyone they know, with whatever spin they want to place on it. Why would anyone place themselves in such a position? There is something called the "appearance of impropriety."

He was arrested and is awaiting trial; the student was removed from their house and placed elsewhere. I have absolutely no idea whether the guy groped the student or whether the student made up the story because she was unhappy and wanted to be placed in a different home. But the guy's reputation is shot, whether or not there is a criminal conviction.

What protection does my neighbor have if the girl decides to make up a story about what happened in the house? Nada.

Wow. We're jumping to a lot of conclusions here.

I'm working on the assumption that the parents are well aware and that he is either family or 'like family'. If the parents trust him with their child, I'm inclined to believe that there is nothing going on. Without any evidence to the contrary, I don't see anything thats worth getting all Kravitsy about.

Oh I do. After taking a short course so i could volunteer with kids at my parish I learned a few things. The overwhelming majority of sexual abuse is committed by friends and family members the parents TRUSTED. And I can guarantee you I would never permit any child, boy OR girl, of mine to be sleeping in adult's house alone no matter what their ages. This absolutely should not be going on period!!

I think the girl's parents ought to be called the situation checked out.
