I don't really know my father- havent' seen him since his mother's funeral in 1987. I have recently been back in touch with his sister and my 2 cousins (the only family he has) and none of them have heard from him either. I did some sleuthing tonight, I believe I found an email address for him and his wife. I cant' decide if I should send him a note- and what would I say? The worst thing he can say is nothing. I've had a whole lot of that in the last 42 years. So why am I afraid to send the email?:surfweb:

If you really want to possibly receive a reply and feel so strongly that you really need to reach out to him then send a short note just so you feel better.

If you feel like you should only because he is there and you have his email then no.

Only you can answer that question.

Tough call.

I think you have to think of it this way: what is the worst that can happen if you do email him, and what is the worst that can happen if you don't?

If you do email and he doesn't answer, or worse, answers but in an unfriendly way, will you regret it? Or if you DON'T email, will you someday regret never taking the chance to reach out?

Only you can answer those questions. I think your hesitation means that you understand the repercussions both ways. You risk being hurt either way. Or you could be pleasantly surprised and find a new relationship you never knew was possible.

Good luck with your decision.

Why? What are you hoping will come of it?
Seems like you have adjusted to not having him as part of your life after all this time.
So, why bother?

I would like to know my father- that is what I am hoping comes from it. A relationship would be nice. He will turn 70 in a couple of weeks- I'd hate for him to pass away and know I didn't take the chance.

If that is your end goal, I would do more than emailing, I would go see him. I would not rely on an email for that.
