Would you/do you let your DD wear these (inspired by words on the pants)

My cousin has a daughter that is 9 y/o, starting last year (when she was 8) my cousin was buying her daughter string bikini panties & string swimsuits (& my cousin thinks she looks so cute in them). She bought them @ Limited, Too, so I guess other kids somewhere are wearing these too. When the grandmother took her to the beach, she was embarrassed - no other kids were wearing bathing suits like that. Oh & this year she let her start shaving her legs - 9 years old.

I think this is entirely too young to wear these. My DH would have a cow if I bought these for DD (who is 4-1/2 now). Kids grow up so fast & I think this type of *clothing* is so inappropriate for an 8, 9, 10, etc. *little* girl. I don't understand why kids have to grow up so fast, the innocence is taken away so young. Am I too old fashion? What are your thoughts?

I guess I would have to see the suit to see if I thought it was appropriate or not. As for the leg shaving at 9, if the girl has hairy legs let her shave them. Some people are get hair sooner and I dont see a need to make them wait because they havent reached a "magic" age.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

I can assure you she did/does not have hairy legs - for some reason her mother just wants her to grow up.

MTE all around. :)

when you say string bikini do you mean like the one that goes in between the cheecks???? My daughter wears bikinis and is 6. Not inapropreiate in any way.

???MTE??? I haven't put on my thinking cap yet, what does that mean?

An absolute no way to string bikinis for my 9 year old (imaginary since I have boys)

I would be o.k. with my 9 year old shaving her legs if she had hairy legs, but would encourage her not to shave them if she were blonde like me. I wish I hadn't started shaving so young (I was probably about 12), because once you start, you have to do it more often.

Is this the bathing suit in question (I found it on the www.limitedtoo.com)

?

If so, I think it is inappropriate for a 9 yr old. I think A LOT of the clothing they make these days is inappropriate! I've seen skirts on little girls that are shorter than anything I would ever dare to wear!

Also, I think 9 is too young to shave legs.. 9 years old - that's the 4TH GRADE!

I'm with you in your thinking. And if we're "old fashioned", than I wish more parents would be, too!

It is so hard to find a decent 2 piece suit for a girl these days. I love the convience of a 2piece for DD, but I end up spending a fortune so that she is not wearing a string bikini.

When we lived in Biloxi I actually had a neighbor ask me if the BX sold thong bikinis for toddlers. She wanted her 1 yr old to match her. I could not believe it.

That bathing suit doesn't bother me. I thought the OP was referring to string thongs, which sent me to the moon at the thought of it.

At nine, I think most girls won't shave more than a few times and forget it. More trouble than it's worth. But I may be wrong.

No WAY!

I have a 9 year old!

My six (soon to be 7 ) year old daughter would never be let out of the house in something like that.

I found a cute suit for my daughther that had a full coverage front halter style with shorts bottoms.

My husband would go into cardiac arrest if she wore something like that!

Definitely not the bathing suit. I wouldn't be crazy about the underwear but I'd probably let that battle go in order to win the battle on what goes on over them. The leg shaving would depend on the necessity of it and how much it bothered her. Again, this is a battle I'd be willing to lose.

Okay, let me explain the swim suit to all of you (& the panties)
they have a small butt & a triangle in the front attached to strings that go around the waist. The top was 2 triangles attached to strings. a string bikini, no not a thong - however her cheeks were coming out a bit because it was made so skimpy.

I'm not referring to a 2 piece swim suit. I see other kids (mine included) that wear 2 piece swimsuits, but not a swimsuit that is so skimpy.

I guess perhaps I'm a bit old fashion after getting some of these responses. I just don't think it's appropriate for a little girl to wear a *sexy* swimsuit, cute yes, but not sexy. Which is what this swimsuit is *trying* to give the appearance of.

edited: ok, just saw the pic a few up, yes similar, but seemed a bit less coverage when wearing.

DD10 has a bikini-- I wouldn't call it a string bikini. She also has a tankini and a 1 piece. She has not 'developed' at all and once she starts I will make very sure any 2 piece suit cover everything.

She has not started shaving either. She has light brown/blonde hair that is thin on her legs so she doesn't need to. I have caught her trying to use my razor and we had to have a little talk about that. She has a friend that is shaving but that doesn't mean she needs to.

No I work in a middle school and I see what the trampy girls look and act like. It amazes me what parents let their kids wear. My DD wouldn't wear a suit like that anyway. She likes the longer Tankinis, but the shoulders have to be covered. She has very specific ideas and they don't involve any of her body parts being on display! I don't think 12-13 year old middle school girls should be wearing thongs either.

 Wow, we'll stick with Lands End tankinis.

Like I said in my previous post definitely not that bathing suit. I hope DD doesn't have any interest in string underwear but I guess we'll deal with that when the time comes. I'm much more concerned with her wearing conservative outerwear.

I work in a middle school too. I have seen kids have sweatpants on as they get to school, and after they go to the bathroom they shed the sweats and have tiny skirts on.

I've seen tons of thongs too.. and I don't think middle schoolers should be wearing them.
