Would you do this?

We are tentatively planning on going to WDW over Christmas this year. We will have APs so we are also going in August and probably next July too, so we will have plenty of park time coming up.

I just found out the Patriots are playing the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Christmas Eve. My kids are huge sports fans and on our last 2 family trips, both to DL, we have been able to see the Celtics play the Lakers in LA and the Red Sox play the Angels in Anaheim. We didn't plan the trips around these games, it just worked out that way. Now it seems to be working out that way again.

The cons are it looks like its a 3 hour ride so that would be 6 hours in the car and a whole day pretty much gone. Plus that would entail an added expense of renting a car for the day (nevermind the 4 tickets themselves).

The pros are the kids love Patriots and tickets are pretty much impossible to come by up here. And seeing the weather the Patriots play in up here, even if we could get tickets, you wouldnt catch me sitting out in below freezing temps and snow, LOL! The chances of my kids going to a Pats game here are pretty much slim to none.

So under those circumstances, would you take a day out of your WDW vacation to make a day trip to Jacksonville to see your home team play?

I would, but I'm a sports nut. Can you make the tickets one of their holiday presents?? I know we'll be in WDW in August and we've been looking at going to a Tampa Bay pre-season game. Unfortunately, they're not playing the Redskins, or there wouldn't be any "thinking about it". If you're Patriots fans and you have the chance to see them, you should do it.

CamColt, How old are your kids???? The only way I would do it is if I stayed overnight in Jacksonville and drove back to WDW the next day.

TC :cool1:

I think the real question is can you do that? Chances of getting the tickets are going to be slim since Jacksonville is a popular team AND with the Pat's being so HUGE right now, there are probably a lot of retired fans in FL too.

I wouldn't think twice about it if you can get the tickets especially since your kids are such huge fans.

I like the idea of the football tickets being part of a Christmas gift.

I would, but I LOVE football.

As for tickets selling out,you maybe able to score some. I would think the Pats would be the reason for a sellout in Jax, more so than the Jags.

I go to Miami alot for games, and normally don't have a problem getting last minute tickets to see some of the better teams play.

You would definately want to spend the night in Jacksonville. It will take you 3 hours from Orlando and that is with light traffic.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

My kids are 6 & 9...actually Cam will be just 10 when we go.

I am leaning toward doing, if we can get the tickets. I also like the idea of giving them the tickets as a gift...good plan! ;) The game is at 1:00 so I think it would be early enough that we could still drive back to WDW, but that is something to think about. :goodvibes

Anyone know when Jaguars tickets go on sale? I couldnt find it on their site.

I am thinking in the summer, but I could be wrong.

I'd do it.
I had my brother drive me to Arlington, Texas from Houston to see the Rangers. We stayed overnight and got to see a Cowboy game at the same time. :cool1:

Of course! We love to go to away games! A "must-do" in my book.

If you already know you have park time then I wouldn't hesitate. Christmas Eve can be pretty crowded at Disney anyway. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive to Jacksonville from Disney. With an early game if you don't mind the driving you can do it in one day. You might even make it back to see some midnight fireworks if the parks are open that late.

Do it, not do it, I justed wanted to say it is nice to see you.

As for the question, TC's idea is good, stay overnight, too much to do in one day. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I would go for it! The parks would probably way crowded on Christmas eve anyway. Good luck :sunny: .

Tickets will be nearly impossible to get. DH and I thought about going up for the Steelers game and the Patriots game. The only reason it was a possibility is because I know someone with Jaguar season tickets.

It would be fun if you can do it though.

I would do it and with a 1 PM game I'd plan on driving back it won't be late and you don't want to miss another day in the parks driving back or pay for a night in another hotel at an expensive time of year and in a city with a home football game. Unless things have changed recently my friend who moved to Jacksonville seemed to be able to get tickets to the games quite often. Have fun!

I didnt realize tickets were as tough to get there as they are here. I know that was our saving grace with the Angels/Red Sox game. Baseball tickets are impossible to get here unless you go through a ticket agency and pay $$$, but in Anaheim it was no problem. I was hoping this would be the same situation, but it doesnt sound like it will be. Guess Ill have to wait and see.

It depends on the opponent. ;)
