They are SOOOOOOO much less expensive than the other airlines for that time frame. I'm thinking they will probably settle their labor issues by then, but I'm not sure they will still be flying. What do you guys think? Would I be crazy to just buy the tickets and keep on eye open for an alternative as we get closer?

I would wait another week or so. Lets see how things go this weekend with the strike vote.

I am a big delta support and fly them every chance I can when I fly. My family has invested a lot in our travels in Delta. But personally I would say know. I never thought I would see the day but it looks serious for Delta. I am very concerned the contract will be voided and they will strike. I could be wrong but I would hold off booking for another week. SAT is when main announcement is.

I purchased some a couple weeks ago for December 06. I charged them so if something happens I'll get my money back, if not I have a non stop flight at the best price I could find so far.

We bought ours 3 months ago for December 06. They cost us $2,160 for 2 adults and 2 children from Ireland and they were about $900 cheaper than Continental. I am praying that the strike is avoided as we can't afford to loose over $2,000 :confused3

I would not book them either. They are supposed to announce something by tomorrow but i am guessing they are going to announce an extension of talks.
I have read on the internet that the arbitration panel is saying you got into this mess now get yourselves out!Basically talk it out boys!I am really thinking we are not going to know anymore tomorrow than we do today. I could be wrong & pray I am but we have made a decision in my house if they extend this tomorrow we are booking on SW or Air Tran & if Delta does not strike we will have credit for future travel!!!This is stressing me out tooooo much & hubby said Enough Already. He worked a side job this week just so we would have extra money to rebook our trip. :cool1: I feel very relieved & blessed that he did this for us!Good luck to all & keep smiling. :)

Thereby abrogating their responsibility as an arbitration panel.

yeah
Bicker-what are your thoughts about the announcement tomorrow? Do you think a decision will be made or will they extend?

Did you purchase trip insurance? Financial default by an airline is normally covered as long as you purchased the trip insurance within 15 days of your initial trip payment and assuming the airline isn't already on the insurance companies strike list.

Which has pretty much been the way the courts have worked throughout this whole mess with DL. (The first bankruptcy judge was HUGE joke.....)

I suppose that's better than what the judge for the UA bankruptcy did -- shifting UA's debts onto the American taxpayer.

Well miracles never cease. An agreement has been announced.....

And this is MUCH earlier then I expected. DL must have bent!

Actually, the union requested that the conditions of the settlement not be revealed. That sounds like the union bent.

Okay - so NOW would you buy tickets to fly on Delta in Jan 07??

As soon as the settlement is certified by the judge, yes.

I'd expect significant schedule changes. Fewer flights on routes that only sell with deeply discounted fares. Some routes dropped.

Don't do something like book an am flight for a cruise that leaves the same day. Don't be upset if the N/S flight you book becomes a connecting flight leaving later in the day.
