Back when I bought my original BWV contract, it was with the intention of doing two 5 day (weeknight) trips a year in a studio during school vacations as I have 3 kids (now grown) That was what I could budget for. As my jobs changed and my income increased, I was able to buy more points, but at less than half of today's prices
I would love to have more points and should have grabbed a resale or two back when they were cheap and affordable.
I didn't. That said, my points are now plenty for my needs as my family rarely comes and I can do a couple of weeks in a combo of studios and 1 bedrooms. Future needs revolve around grandchildren - but guess what? Their parents are perfectly capable of affording a Disney vacation if they need one every year, or occasionally (like this July 4th at HH) they can tag along with me in my one bedroom!
If I were buying today, DVC would be a real stretch for me to consider buying new at full price. Instead of my original buy in at the former minimum, I might be doing a 100 point contract. Too pricey - makes me want to go other places with my cash.
Thankfully I got hooked way back when. I'm for certain that I would not do repeat Disney trips in values or moderates and the full price of any of the resorts may not be out of my league, but I look at that price and think 'one time only' vacation, and start going elsewhere. The Disney experience has a price ceiling for me (and for my family it seems.)
So, no, I would not buy at any 'new' DVC, and I doubt I'll find any resales in the $56 to $70 a point range (other than Vero) these days.
