Oh man, I can't even imagine what I would have done. :guilty:
Read this:

Mom Of 5-Year-Old, Outraged After Daughter's Ears Were Pierced At Daycare

When Eloise Cardenas dropped her five-year-old Mia off at daycare last Wednesday, she expected her daughter to play games, read books and, with luck, take a nap. But she got much more than she bargained for. At pickup, Cardenas discovered Mia's ears had been pierced during the schoolday; she was wearing new hoops.

According to The Star-Telegram, one of the little girl's teachers at KinderCare in Fort Worth, TX told Cardenas that Mia had been complaining that her ears hurt. It turned out this was because a different teacher had pierced the child's ears, and Cardenas was furious. The ear-piercing teacher's response? "Mia said it was OK."

"I said, 'She's a kid. You're the adult. You should have known better,'" Cardenas told the newspaper.

According to NBC DFW, KinderCare released the following statement in response to the incident:

"The teacher did place her earrings in the child's pierced ears. The safety and security of the children in our care is our top priority. We take this situation seriously and have reported it to State Licensing. In addition, the teacher was disciplined."

Cardenas and her husband aren't satisfied with the consequences. They are refusing to send Mia and her younger brother back to KinderCare until the teacher is fired. And, they filed a report with Fort Worth police. Though there is little the police can do.

According to The Star-Telegram, "While the Texas Health and Safety Code prohibits body piercings on children younger than 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian, the law does not apply to earlobe piercings."

Not all parents think the mishap is such a big deal, however. Cassie Rhudy, whose 16-month-old daughter attends the same day care, is one of them. She told NBC DFW:

"You know, when we look at today's society and we look at all the harm that's done to children, in comparison, it's nothing really."

Whaaa? :confused3 Am I wrong in thinking this would be a really big deal to most parents?

The response from the daycare makes it sound as if the girl's ears were already pierced, and the teacher just let her borrow the earrings. So which is it?

I would be beyond angry to find out a teacher had pierced my daughter's ears.

Holy cow. I'd have a fit. I'd have her arrested for assaulting my child. She put HER dirty earrings in too. Sweet.:headache:

:scared1: I would be furious. But after I calmed down, I'd be grateful it wasn't permanent. :)

I think it's a really big deal! I think the teacher should be fired! The article is not clear on how the teacher did it, it says she put her earrings in the child's ears. :confused3

I think it said that the teacher pierced the girl's ears and then put her own earrings into the little girl's ears. :headache:

Could you possibly transmit a disease that way?

I would have taken them out if I didn't want her to have them. Let the daycare no that I didn't want her to have them yet.

I don't know what is more hard to believe...the idiot "teacher" (and I say "teacher" loosely) thinking it is appropriate to pierce a child's ears without the parent's consent OR the fact that the police have little recourse.

I thought the same thing. I am confused. Did they pierce her ears or just change earrings? I would still be bothered if the ears were already pierced and the teacher put her own earrings in if they were not sanitized but that is not the same as piercing the kids ears without permission.

How would that work anyway? Did they just toss the kid in the car and cart her off somewhere? Do it in the school bathroom? :confused3

I would have issues. My DD had to wait until she was 16 to get her ears pierced. Mostly because I don't like dealing with pierced ears...freaks me out. I wanted nothing to do with cleaning, making sure they weren't infected, turning them or anything else.

My best friend had a ripped earlobe from a hoop earring getting caught. Another friend had to keep re-piercing her ears since it was at volleyball season and you could NOT have any earrings on during games.

I would be freaking out. It was unclear if the teacher pierced the ears or put her earrings in the child's ears but either way...yuck.

I would be absolutely LIVID if this happened to my child!! What would make someone think it was OK to pierce another childs ears w/o parental consent is beyond me!

How I read it is that teacher #1 pieced the child's ears and put her own hoop earrings in the child's ears and then teacher #2 responded to the child's compliant about her ears hurting. It was then that it was discovered that the ears had been pieced by teacher #1.

My head would explode. Literally.

If they were not already pierced, I would be LIVID!! And then dirty earrings to boot? Another "head exploding" here..:headache:

The article is definitely confusing, but even if the child's ears had been previously pierced, you don't put dirty earrings in a child's ears!

It's kind of right up there with a child getting his or her first haircut. It might not be a crime to take my child and give her a first-haircut without telling me. But I can promise you, I'd go nuts.

And with this ear-piercing thing -- I would be very concerned about disease if this teacher was putting a needle into my child's body and her used earrings.

I can't even respond, because I'd be so angry, my response would probably seem over the top. I honestly can't believe the woman cannot be arrested.

Here's another article with more info. Apparently the little girl had pierced ears but hadn't worn earrings for two years.

http://www.wbaltv.com/r/29825582/detail.html

****Mia had previously had each ear double-pierced, but the holes closed after the girl stopped wearing earrings about two years ago, the Star-Telegram reported.
Cardenas said Mia told her that a teacher in a different class had done the piercings, which left the girl's earlobes sore and red.
"I said, 'She's a kid. You're the adult. You should have known better,'" Cardenas said. "I don't care how you look at it, it's wrong."
KinderCare released the following statement in response to the incident:
"The teacher did place her earrings in the child's pierced ears. The safety and security of the children in our care is our top priority. We take this situation seriously and have reported it to State Licensing. In addition, the teacher was disciplined."****

I would be angry beyond words. I'd also be looking for a new daycare.

I would be ticked!!!!!! I can't believe the police wouldn't do anything about this!? Wouldn't that be some type of abuse?
