a friend (also neighbor) that has suddenly become unfriendly toward you, if you have done something to offend her? Our DDs play together (it's getting to be less and less), and we also used to do things together. In the past few months, I have noticed that she is not as friendly as she used to be with us. At first, I read her coldness as maybe having personal problems. I feel bad because my DD likes to play with her DDs. When I talk to her, she crosses her arms and it's obvious that she feels uncomfortable. This didn't happen before, we enjoyed talking to each other.
As I said, we used to do things together. I'd invite her and she'd invite me to go places. When my next door neighbor saw that we were becoming good friends, she started to get close to my friend. I had no problem with that, one person can be friends with several different people at the same time. As the two of them started to do things together, my friend began to decline invitations from me.
There is a bit of history here... My next door neighbor and I DON'T get along, this friend knows that. The problem is that the next door neighbor has a habit of disparaging people, she is really one nasty person.
On Halloween night, we took younger DS and DD around the neighborhood. "My friend" ran into us while we were walking (they were running late) and we continued to walk together the rest of the way. When she ran into us, she said "I knew we'd catch up with you guys". As we were heading back home, the next door neighbor was coming in our direction. I would have just said hello and kept walking, but since "my friend" stopped and obviously wanted to talk to the next door neighbor, we stopped just to be polite. We stood there waiting for "my friend" and she kept talking to them, we obviously weren't part of the conversation. After waiting for several minutes and realizing that "my friend" was now in her element, we just said, "See, you later". She said, "Bye". I guess better company came along. I thought that was rude, but what can you do. DH even made a comment about it as we walked home.
Now, I've taken the hint and won't pursue this "friendship" any longer. However, DD wants to go over and play with her DDs. Should I ask her if I have offended her in any way? I know she'll say that I haven't, she doesn't like confrontations. Should I still ask anyway or let it go?
What do I say to DD? Opinions?
