just wondering if anyone might know, if i were to be traveling soon would increasing my vitamin c intake be of any value in avoiding this virus?

No. :) Nothing makes you resistant to a virus except having HAD a virus, and with this one it supposedly gives you about 14 days of immunity after getting it.

Your best course of action is LOTS of hand washing and practicing common sense with hygiene. :)

Many will not agree (incl. doctors), BUT after much research and 'proof is in the pudding' I am a staunch believer in vits and immunity boosters that have saved us more than we can count! We take daily multi vits, Vit C, Cal/Mag., Fish oil or E. At the first sign of any cold, etc. we take Echinacea which is an immune system booster - 3x day for a week. Our son-in-law (a GI nurse) and family swear by Zinc. As not regulated, I would be very careful with children and hesitant to use any immunity boosters.
*I am not suggesting they would combat a virus of this type.

believe me, a vitamin regimen will not ward off a virus like the Norwalk...only common sense and paying particular attention to hygiene ie frequent handwashing...

There is an antiviral product out there. It's called Sambucol, and you can get it at health food stores. It is a natural anti-viral antibacterial liquid made from elderberries. Our family uses it along with supplements (and hand washing) and we don't get sick very often. If we do, it doesn't last long.

I don't know about Norwalk, but hubby swears by zinc to reduce the severity of colds. It has to be the Cold-eeze brand of lozenges (there are different types of zinc, but that's the kind that has shown effectiveness in studies), or now there is a nasal spray with the same type of zinc. I am currently trying that now...I think I am coming down with a cold (pretty common when I travel in the winter), so I'll see if this wards it off.
