Would this work for "walking" a reservation?

I think I understand walking a reservation after reading several threads but correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm wanting to book somewhere 7 months out and understand don't try to walk these. But....if I have enough points to book say Sept 7-14 and I really only want September 9-14 and that type of room/resort is open, I can book Sept 7-14 and then go in and modify it Sept 9 and won't lose the room. Is that correct or am I thinking wrong? Thanks for all those in the know.

Yes. If that is available, you can do a mini-walk like that - just booking 7 nights and dropping 2 that you don' t need.

Just be careful if using any banked or borrowed points that they stay in the 5 night reservation that you keep.

At 7-months, it is short walks, like the one you mention, that often lead to success. If Sep 7-14 is open at 7-months out, and you have the points to book all those days before dropping the first two nights, then you should try doing so.

Thank you! I borrowed 5 points when I had a different reservation (beginners mistake) so they're sitting there in the reservation to be used. I also have a year's of banked points too. I'll make sure those are used if it works out.

You can always change your point allocation after the fact if need be. i.e., if current year points get used instead of the 5 borrowed points, you can reallocate which points at a later time (just make sure you do it before you would need to bank anything or make additional reservations!)

Yes you can definitely do this! I just did it this morning for a stay at the VGC I needed two extra days to add to our already booked trip at the 11 month window but with the borrowing restrictions I couldn’t book them. I was able to book a full week at the 7month window when I really only need the last two days so as soon as I get to when those can be booked I will modify and drop the first 5 I don’t need. My question now is can I combine the reservations into one once I have the days I need, even though one was booked at 11 months home advantage and the other was at 7 months?

I don't believe MS will merge the two reservations in this case. I've ran into a similar issue in the past and was told no, even when using same membership number and home resort, because one reservation was made in the 11 month window and the other was not.

Thanks for the information I thought that might be the case 😊

I have this done all the time. It has never been an issue because it’s all the same room type and each was booked with appropriate points.

Can’t say I’m surprised by the lack of consistency with member services. I’ll be sure to try again if the situation arises.
