Our home is on the flight path to a local RAF base, and they can fly a bit low sometimes, but not THAT low! :scared1: Awesome photo though.

This is the moment a a US Navy pilot gave a shocked resident a very close look at his F18. The fighter/bomber streaked past an apartment block on the banks of the Detroit River at the weekend.

It was part of a tactical demonstration fly-past to open a speedboat race in the North American city. Officials waived rules to allow the Navy flyers to swoop under 100ft along the waterway.

One resident said: 'I couldn't believe how low they flew and how close they came to our building - I'm sure the pilot waved at me.'

The jets had flown in from the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia to put on a spectacular show for thousands of spectators.

The Chrysler Jeep Superstores APBA Gold Cup race was won by speedboat ace Dave Villcock. 'We danced with the devil at every turn,' said Villwock, 55, who demolished the field on his way to his seventh Gold Cup win.

'We were either going to win it big or lose it big.' He couldn't match the F15s for speed, although his average of 141mph for the five-lap final remained impressive.

No I wouldn't like it plus the noise would probably make my ears bleed, (OK not really) I am very sensitive to loud noises.

The dang Amy helicopters are bad enough when it sounds like they are trying to land on my roof.

Yep, that would scare me. That's a bit too close.

hmmmmmmm the wingspan of an f18 is 40ft and an average "floor" on a building is 10 ft. if you look at the picture it matches up exactly. wouldnt that put the plane against the building? not doubting here, i dont know how to match up the feet relative to distance thing. maybe someone out there can.

Wouldn't bother me a bit, that's an awesome photo. At our first apartment in Virginia Beach you could lie on the bed and if you were in just the right position you could see the landing gear of the planes as they were coming in for a landing at Oceana.

That photo seems a little photoshoppy.

The wing tip is missing so I'm thinking photoshop too. but still scary.

The tail of the plane should also be seen through the windows behind it. The proportion of that tree vs the plane and builing are totally off as well.

Not only that, look at the top floor balcony.....is that the wing tip poking thru the railing? :lmao:

Nice picture though

While I've got no clue whether or not the picture is real...

If you look at this picture:
f18.jpg

You can see the wings don't come to "tips" - they are flat. So what you see in the original picture is all you would see.

Also - the tail is squat so that's probably all you would see, too.

Andddd - one poster said that the average span is 40ft and an average "floor" is 10 ft. Well, it's only matched up to 3 floors - meaning that if it's a real picture - it's further away than you would at first think.

Very cool picture, by the way.
And no, it wouldn't freak me out! I've lived on AF bases almost my entire life...I love jets.

As for the tree...it COULD be a plant or bush...maybe someone is on their balcony and snapped the picture real quick?
