Would this feel like a good deal to you?

We just started talking about a December trip to POP, but when I called to check availability for AAA discounts, there were none available. Not surprising--I know they sell out quickly, especially over the holidays. I checked the current special online, and although it looks like we could save ~$5 a night on the room, we'd have to purchase the one day one park tickets (not needed, as we'll be getting AP's if we decide to do this trip), which would add ~$20 a day for the 4 of us AND we'd have to stay at at AS Sports, our least favorite of the values. So it looks like I'm stuck with rack rate. Though I hate paying full price, we can check in during value season ($82 per night) and keep that rate throughout our stay, more than half of which would be during holiday season ($129 per night).

Would you feel good about the $47 per night savings (for half the trip anyway), or would it bother you that you're not getting a "real" discount? Any suggestions as to how to get a "real" discount that wouldn't end up actually costing more (like the current special sometimes does when you overlap seasons)? TIA!

Bargain hunting is great, but dont sacrifice what would make you happy about going to Disney to do it. Pay full price and be done with it.

I agree with the above poster. If you don't like ASSp, go with Pop and don't worry about the savings at AASp. After all you could probably save even more money off site, but it isn't where you want to be. I think Pop is worth it!

Did you check the AP rates for your timeframe? I wouldn't stay at a resort I didn't like, but ASSports is supposed to be renovated- not sure if all the buildings are slated to be completed by December. Sometimes it's better to be in the dark vs. knowing about discounts and finding out there aren't any available for what you want!---Kathy

You're all right--I should just be happy I got into POP and not worry about it. It just seems to un-DIS-like to pay full price, LOL.

I will check for AP discounts once they come out, but I know they won't extend through the holidays. And keeping that value season rate for the holidays is a big perk, one that won't be available next year, which is one of the reasons we really want to take advantage of it this year. Thanks for the input!

I think keeping the value season rate could be looked at as getting a discount.

See, Disney math strikes again:thumbsup2 !
