Would this bother you/do you do this?

I work as a receptionist at a midsized company. I sit at a huge desk that wraps around me on 3 sides. The only open area is off to the side where no visitors can see. So basically the only part of me that is visible to anyone is my head & shoulders. The lobby is by itself, and there are no other offices near me.

I always dress professionally at work and many times, that means wearing uncomfortable shoes. Sometimes I find myself slipping my shoes off under the desk. I don't think anything of it but it occurred to me that some people might be bothered by this. Obviously, I wouldn't do it if I were in a cubicle or in close proximity to others, or if my shoes and/or feet were, um... stinky.

Do you take your shoes off at work? Would it bother you if somebody else did? Do I just have entirely too much time on my hands to worry about silly things?

In the summer, my shoes ALWAYS come off when I'm at my desk. I can't stand wearing shoes. And I'll admit, my feet are stinky. Hey, if you could smell my coworkers sometimes... :crazy2:

I would. Just make sure you put them back on before you go walking around, and keep your feet under your desk.

No, if no one can see your feet and they don't smell, then go for it. :teeth: It only bothers me when people pad around the office in their stocking feet. I don't care if they sit at their desk but don't walk around.

My entire help-desk.... we're all barefoot, all the time.

Some of us, even have slippers for cold feet - but still putz around bare-toe'd in the department.

I take my shoes off from time to time. Most people around here do.

I frequently have my shoes off, I have my own office so the only one to be offended would be me :teeth: I also like to sit cross legged in my chair, which my Boss doesn't approve of  I do it anyway

When I worked as a chemist I would dress professsionally in case anyone came in the office that needed to see me but I always had a pair of Keds under my desk that went on as soon as I walked in. We had a manufacturing facility in the back and there is no way I'd walk back there in my good shoes and then track that mess out, into my car and eventually into my house. As long as your feet were unseen I don't think it would matter. Of course if your business was really stuffy they might have something to say. I'm all for comfort!

It's my manger's pet peeve, so I don't.

I have a photo of a shoe with a circle and red line through it on my door at work. It's a joke that a co-worker put there, because in my office my shoes are off. The minute I get a visitor or have to leave the office they go back on though. I do'nt walk around the "public" parts of our business in abre feet.

I sometimes take my shoes off at work too. I just have to remember to put them back on when I leave my desk.. I work at an auto body shop, so I don't want to have to go out back and be tip-toeing through car parts and chemicals to deliver a message!

I'd love to take my shoes off, but the cleaning crew doesn't vacuum the floors hardly ever, so there are old staples and dirt and dust and other assorted dirty things on the floor, and therefore I wouldn't dare.

I take mine off! I've thought of bringing slippers to work. Heck I've thought of wearing my PJs to work, but I'm an attorney so it might not go over to well with the clients!

That's how it was at my old job! I once dropped a jellybean under my desk and decided to leave it there to see how often it was cleaned under there. A year and a half later, it was still there.

Ew.
