I can't seem to figure this out and knew the experts on here could help me.:thumbsup2 My UY is December, so I will be receiving points Dec. 1. If I call to make a reservation for next summer (2012), will I be borrowing points since I'm calling before the Dec. 1 date or would that be considered a current reservation since my UY will run from Dec. 2011-Nov. 2012 and my reservation will occur during that time frame? My Dec. 2011 points aren't really considered 2011, right? They are Dec. 2011-Nov. 2012 if I'm understanding correctly.:confused3 If that is the case, it doesn't matter when I call to make my reservation, but it just has to occur within my UY, correct?

Thanks so much! I've had tons of questions since joining DVC, but I'm making gains every day!:)

December use years are strange in that they are 11 months behind a calendar year.

Your December 1, 2011, use year runs December 1, 2011, to November 30, 2012. The points would be current points for stays between those dates, no matter when you place the call or send the email to book the reservation. They would not be borrowed points.

If you are making a reservation for summer 2012, you will be using points your December 2011 use year.

Just to clarify it's not when you book but when your stay is,so as long as your vacation is in the current use year you don't have to borrow - unless you need to of course!:goodvibes

as others have said, your reservation is in your 2011 use year, so you have the option of using banked 2010 pts (if any), current 2011 pts (even if you call before your 2011 UY starts), and borrowed 2012 pts (if needed).

we talk about "receiving" pts on dec 1, but if you login to your DVC account, you'll see that your pts through 2013 are already there...no waiting...you just can't access your 2013 pts until you hit your 11 month home resort window (borrowed 2013 pts would be valid for stays starting dec 1, 2012 at the earliest, meaning you can't borrow them until the start of jan 2012 at the earliest.)

Thank you for the replies!:thumbsup2 I seriously don't know how I'd function without the DIS! I got hooked years ago when planning a Disney cruise, and now I'm hooked on the DVC section! These boards contain way more knowledge than the book they give to you--that is for sure!:thumbsup2

And just keep in mind the 7 month / 11 month booking rule. If you are set up on the dvcmember.com site, it will tell you exact dates you can book based on the current date.
