Would they, could they ever build a walkway to WL?

Just for fun, but looking at this Google Earth image, it does look possible.

Full disclaimer, I'm a nurse, not a construction engineer and I have no idea how these things work, but it looks like they could make a little bridge and a walkway.

We have our first stay booked at CCV on October and the only drawback I can think of of staying there is having to take a boat/bus everywhere. I love the idea of walking when I can.

What do you all think?

They would have to create a protected sidewalk under the water bridge in order to allow people to walk to MK. The road through there is a two lane road with high traffic volume from resort buses and other vehicles. They use this route for the races like the Disney marathon and half marathons, but in those instances they close one lane of traffic. I can't see them allow pedestrians to go through here without widening the underpass. I don't see that happening, unfortunately. :(

I am also not an engineer but I think it would be feasible to build a walkway from WL to the Contempo, and then WL guests could walk on the CR path and use the CR security to MK. I haven’t heard that the GF walkway is complete yet, but if it’s a big hit and they see a lot of Poly guests using it, then I think WL would have a chance at getting a walkway too.

Adding a stop on the monorail - in actuality, adding an extension - woukd cost about $50,000,000 per mile. That doesn't include the additional station, or the engineering, or any additional vehicles.

WL already has two modes of transportation to MK. Guests can take a bus, or a Friendship boat. Or a boat to the Contemporay, from which they can walk on the CR path and use the CR security to MK.

I'm still skeptical that the GF bridge will get a great deal of use. I don't feel peop!e who seek "the best room closest to everything" at WL are going to walk any extra distance. Especially not on the way back.

I think this is the biggest barrier to a pathway to WL from MK.

The other concern is traffic. Guests from the Contemporary need to cross the street at a stoplight-controlled intersection near the MK bus station. It seems like traffic has really increased at this intersection in recent years, including traffic coming from behind the MK. I'm not sure that Disney would want to add more pedestrians to this pathway unless they added a pedestrian bridge over World drive, and the monorail beams are right above the crosswalk.

The other walking paths I can think of around WDW are more protected from traffic - especially the ones in the Epcot-area resorts on Crescent Lake.

That will get a ton of use, especially at peak times like after fireworks and park closing. Transportation lines are killer then. Many people would much rather just walk than wait around in line.

We have young children and always stay at CR because it’s awesome to use the walking path to MK with the stroller (especially at night- we let our kids fall asleep in the stroller and walk back on the dark, quiet path, it’s perfect.) I’m sure the GF walking path will get a lot of use from other stroller families. We are finally going to stay at GF on our next trip, assuming the walkway in done!

We stayed at Contemporary the time my mother came with us. She is elderly and needs a scooter to manage WDW. On the walk back to the Contemporary, she kept leaving us in the dust. Lol.

So yeah, a walking path is easier than other transportation methods when you're in a scooter, too.

To me a walkway to the TTC would be more likely than all the way to the Magic Kingdom

I think this is true, although I don't think they would want to add any additional people to the monorail. It's aging and already packed to the gills at park closing time. Well, pre-Covid, anyway. Seeing all the people in the monorail queue at closing is something else!

That’s true. It was really nice to go and get the boat to WL after the fireworks. It wasn’t as long as the monorail line for sure.

It's funny. Before I first stayed at the Polynesian, I thought I'd use the monorail the most because it's legendary. Turns out I just LOVE that little boat in the summer!

My family stayed at the Yacht and Beach Club while I was growing up, and those Friendship boats are painfully slow and enclosed. The Magic Kingdom area boats are zippy and you get that fantastic breeze off the water.

I LOVE the ferry boat from to and from WL! It was one of the reasons we bought DVC at BRV. I agree that walking to places is great when you can, but even if I could walk back faster on a trail, I’d take the ferry. It’s the best end to a great day at MK.

"Could" they? Sure. But....why would they? All other parks are accessible by bus and MK is accessible by boat. There's Uber and Lyft if any of those options don't work for one reason or another. I can't imagine why they'd spend the money to do that.

For sure! The boats are one of my husband’s favorite things about WL.

In the summer months, that path from the GF to the MK will not be very busy. The heat and humidity will kill a lot of folks. It's kind of long, too, especially if you are staying at the GFV.

Speaking of that, anyone know if those boats will likely be running the last week of July just after WDW reopens?

Would you accept a "maybe"? The ferry is supposed to start this week; it's only reasonable that the launches and Friendships start as well. In fact, whatever site is providing transportation updates I think said the Poly launches will be running, but not going to GF.

There is actually a sidewalk that goes under the water bridge. Depending on your perspective it starts just off the "exit" from World Drive to the CR convention center and ends just south of the Monorail line and a bit north of the WL parking lot (not the drive in entrance.)
