My kids haven't seen much TV - mainly just cartoons. They have even been known to have nightmares after watching Scooby Doo...
Would the movies playing at Sci-Fi scare them???
:confused3

The movies are presented in quick snips, and presented in such a fashion that they are more funny than scary. But there are clips of goofy looking 1950's "monsters". I don't think they would scare most kids, but really only you can be the judge of whether they would bother yours.

It's a fun place, but not worth giving your kids nightmares! If you have any doubts about it, wait till next trip.

I think it has the possability of scaring some children, depending on what they have seen in the past. There are shots of monsters (men in rubber suits) carrying off women, skeletons, zombies and women screaming. There are also cartoons with aliens and robots and such stuff mostly from the 40's and 50's..

Our kids thought is was more funny than scary. My boys are 7 & 10. We all loved it!!

Depends on the child -- it scared one of our nine-year-old twin boys and didn't bother the other at all. If you think there is a possibility it would frighten your children, I'd choose another place.

Only you can judge whether on not it would scare your children, but it is not the entire movie, so you are not getting into any plot or anything like that. There are B&W trailers of 50's and very early 60's movies, like the Blob.

My kids were actually quite disappointed that it was not an entire movie. It is just little snipets from very old science fiction movies some of which might scare a child that gets frightened from scooby doo.

I honestly can't imagine the clips that they play scaring anyone. I wouldn't hesitate to even bring in a toddler that's a crybaby.

Half of the clips they show are just old concession stand ads. The other half are NOT scary. They're mostly black and white clips of really old movies. Most of them aren't horror flicks at all, and the few that were seemed to be more funny than anything...mostly just fake screams and stuff.

We have eaten there several times and it's really NOT scarry although it DOES depend on your kids. as they say it's all black and white snippets of old movies. The food is served on glow-in-the-dark frizbies for kids meals which are a lot of fun when they get to play with them and they have really good milkshakes!

This is YMMV

My kids did not have their meals served on glow-in-the-dark frisbees, nor did I see any of them anywhere in the entire restaurant.

My son was 8 at the time. He did not like Sci Fi. No nightmares, but he was uneasy at bed time.

When planning this trip 2 years later, he still remembers and specifically told me he does not want to go back to Sci Fi.

I don't think that the trailers would scare your kids. In my opinion, Scooby Doo has more "scare potential" than the brief movie trailers. Your kids would probably think that it's so cool to eat in cars that they may not feel apprehensive! :goodvibes

My DS was 5 last year when we went to Sci-Fi. He does not like scarey movies but he was fine with this. I think he was so excited about eating in a car and his lighted ice cube in his drink he didnt even pay attention what was on the screen. I personally think its a great atmosphere for kids. We enjoyed it. :thumbsup2

My DS2 and DS4 were scared. They were used to watching TV and DVDs at home. Lots of screaming women in distress, chomping monsters making scary noises, army men and scientists yelling in fear and threatening violent images. Add to this near darkness. Sure, it's all just silly to anyone probably age 8 and older, but we had to leave the restaurant. As everyone is saying, every child reacts differently. You are the best judge. It may be worth it to let them peek inside - the cool cars may offset the scary movies for your kids.

Quite honestly, I'm shocked that even toddlers would be scared by this stuff, but at that age I guess nothing should really be surprising. I think you (and the poster with the 8-year old who was uneasy at bedtime) are doing a real disservice to people who might want to eat at this place with little kids by making it sound like a scary place. IMO any 8-year old who was made to feel uneasy by the screeners in this place probably needs professional help. THE CLIPS ARE COMEDY CLIPS! They aren't scary at all. When I ate there the place was filled to capacity with kids of all ages and I never heard a peep out of any of them, other than having fun.

If I had a toddler that scares easily, I'd probably read this thread and decide against the place. That's kind of sad, because it's a great, fun place for kids to eat and it really isn't scary at all.

Wow! I have never eaten at the Sci- Fi (but plan to do this on our upcoming trip). Just have to tell you, formernyer, your comments are way out of line! :sad2:

At the poster's request, I reported my children's perception of the restaurant. I would appreciate it if you would not impugn me by suggesting that I am exaggerating, or my children by suggesting they need professional help.

Only if they have to pay the bill!!! :teeth: It's more silly to me then scarey!

We have brought all our children at every age from 18 months on up and none have ever been scared, ecen our VERY shy one! They are very small clips of OLD movies, nothing like today. My ds that is 7 also thought they were quite funny!

Sci Fi scared my dd when she was 6. I think for her it was the whole package, the dark, the uncertainty of what's going happen next, the weirdness of the clips. I actually had to leave with her (and her burger) she was so upset, and sit outside to wait on dh and my older dd to finish and pay the bill. My older dd, 8 at the time, loved it and has been wanting to go back ever since. My youngest finally agreed to try it again this summer... she'll be turning 10.
It's just like the way some attractions will bother some kids and not others.
An adult's perception and a child's perception are two different things. Sometimes you don't know what's going through their minds...
