Our Jan trip is going to be a surprise for Christmas. I would love to do a tresure hunt and make "the moment" last longer. I am terrible at making up clues of sorts. Anyone done this before or have ideas for clues??

OOHH! How fun! We did the same thing to tell our kids about our last trip. We put clues around the house and when they found each clue there was an envelope with a puzzle pieces in eachone. The puzzle pieces spelled out WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY!!!!

I gave them the first clue on an index card, that said "I have a rumbly in my tumbly! And only this will help." The next clue and envelope were on a bottle of honey in the cupboard.
Here are a couple other clues we gave:
1. I'm looking for my son! (clue in Finding Nemo movie)
2. To infinity and beyond! (on a Buzz Lightyear Toy)

If you need others just let me know. We have older kids so some were a lot harder.

Your kids will love this!!!!

Cool ideas! Thanks!! I was thinking perhaps... ending with a box of balloons! How cool would that be. ANyone else has more ideas?

We do clues for Easter toys, here are a couple of my favorite clues:

1. Round and round it goes where it stops nobody knows...but boy is it hot in here! (the dryer)

2. S-s-s-somebbboddy let me o-o-out of here, its c-c-c-c-cold! (the freezer)

3. We just got a letter, we just got a letter, we just got a letter...I wonder where its at? (the mailbox)

Hope that helps?!

We did this for our trip. I wrote out a little poem for each clue. Each poem led them to another clue.
One was hidden on my son's bunk bed. this clue was a calendar with the date we were going to leave circled.
Another clue was hidden in my daughter's room. This clue was a pirate hat and princess crown.
The fourth clue was hidden in my closet. It was in a treasure chest suitcase. There were 2 Mickey shirts and a stuffed Minnie and Mickey.

The final clue was the Disney planning DVD. When you open the package it says something like "Dear XXX Family, we are so excited that you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World in June 2008." By the time my son read the word "June" out loud his voice was almost a shout! It was really cool!

This was our first family trip and the kids had NO idea we were going. We did tell them a few weeks before the trip because I think that part of the fun is the anticipation!

We have reservations at the Great Wolf Lodge this weekend and I am planning another treasure hunt to tell the kids. (The first thing that I will have to tell them is that it is not going to end with Disney World!)

I personally love doing things like this. I think that it adds to the fun!:goodvibes

there is a book by Passporter that is treasure hunts all around the Walt Disney Resorts, Parks & cruise line, the very beginning has clue sto make a treasure hunt to tell about the trip when I go home in the morning I will try to put them in a post

It would really be cool if the box with the balloons had hellium filled balloons so when they opened it all the balloons come out like in the commercials:rotfl:

We did this one year for Christmas for the boys. We all enjoyed it. We thought the older one would have a hard time with it and he did fine! His younger brother who we thought would fly through it needed lots of help?

We had several clues that led to their big gift.

One was something like, "go through the door that will make you warm no more". (He had to go outside)

Lots of fun! Go for it!:santa:

We also did a treasure hunt for puzzle pieces and then at the end they put together a Disney Puzzle that I had written on in Black Marker..."We are Going To DISNEY!!!" It was too funny watching the lightbulb go off when they figured out what it said.
They had so much fun hunting for clues. We are doing another surprise trip and I wonder if we do another treasure hunt if they will know what's going on before the end. I might have to come up with a different idea????? It's going to be part of their Christmas presents...hmmmm

This is the one I'm using on Christmas morning. I got some of the clues on the internet, made up others. Sorry if this post is long! I'm cutting up a big Phineas & Ferb poster I found at the Disney store. It's my kids' favorite cartoon and it won't give away the surprise too quickly like a Mickey or Tigger poster would. I'll write a "See you at Disney in XX days!" on it before I cut it up.

Your present from Mom and Dad this year
Stated quite simply isn’t here.
Not under the tree, where it’s easy to see.
But hidden somewhere…where could it be?
To find your gift you’ll have to look
Maybe you should start…where you cook. (kitchen)

A puzzle piece you say?
Oh, what fun we’re having today!
Collect them all – it won’t take a week!
They’ll help you find the gift that you seek.

You use this to make your teeth squeaky clean,
It gives you a smile like a king or a queen. (toothbrush)

Your next clue can be found in something to put on your feet
So they won’t get cold out on the concrete. (shoes)

Find something white that comes on a roll.
It’s usually near a toilet bowl. (toilet paper)

Hop in this when you are smelly,
You will get a very clean belly. (bathtub)

The next clue can be found in something big – it’s quite nice.
It holds lots of things – including the ice. (freezer)

When traffic is slow,
You give this a blow. (car horn)

This next thing tells time
And every hour it chimes! (family room clock)

At Grandma’s when you want to swim,
Go out to this and jump on in! (hot tub)

Your journey is almost at an end, here’s the last piece- please don’t bend!
Put the puzzle together and you will see, where you are going in January!

How could I have missed this? We must have written over each other!! Thank you so much for posting those clues. I LOVE them!! Very poetic! <grin>

I love this idea... we are thinking that this year's trip will be the kid's Christmas present and I like the idea of giving them some clues so it's a little more like opening a gift... I love the box of balloons idea - how fun!
